Weekend events (other than the G20) affect transit services,
June 26, 27



While the G20 Summit in downtown Toronto seems to dominate everyone’s attention this weekend, other — less serious — events in the area also affect transit services.

The events take place in Brampton, Georgetown and Markham.


The events affect these routes:

Brampton Transit2 Main.

GO Transit31 Guelph / Georgetown - Union.

York Region Transit8 Kennedy.


The Saturday, June 26 events affecting transit services are: the Downtown Brampton Farmers Market; the Georgetown Farmers Market; and the Taste of Asia Festival.

The Sunday, June 27 event affecting transit service is: the Taste of Asia Festival.


Brampton


Downtown Brampton Farmers Market

The City of Brampton is closing

  • Main Streets North and South between Nelson and Wellington Streets

on Saturday morning and early afternoon and every Saturday until October 9 to accommodate the weekly farmers market.

Brampton Transit is detouring bus service during the market.

2 Main

From 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street, then detour:

westward along Nelson Street West, passing, but not stopping at, the Downtown Transit Terminal,
southward along George Streets North and South; and then
eastward along Wellington Street West to Main South,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

Southbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Main Street at Queen Street.

Northbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Streets South and North at Wellington Street, John Street, north of Queen Street and at Theatre Lane.

Georgetown


Georgetown Farmers Market

The Town of Halton Hills is closing

  • Main Street South Georgetown between James and Church Streets

on Saturday morning and every Saturday until October 9 to accommodate the Central Georgetown Business Improvement Area’s weekly market.

GO Transit is detouring bus service during the weekly market.

31 Guelph / Georgetown - Union

From 6:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, eastbound buses from Guelph operate along their regular route to Main and Guelph Streets (Provincial Highway 7) and then proceed:

southeastward along Guelph to Mill Street,
resuming their regular route southwestward along Guelph.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Street South opposite Cross Street and at Wesleyan Street and
  • on Mill Street at Guelph Street.

Westbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Mill Street south of Guelph Street and
  • on Main Street South opposite Wesleyan Street and at Cross Street.

Buses that start or end their trips at Georgetown operate to and from the Georgetown GO Station, instead of Main Street South and Wesleyan Street and do not travel to downtown Georgetown.

Taste of Asia Festival

The Region of York and the Town of Markham are closing

  • Kennedy Road, between Steeles Avenue East and Clayton Road

all day Saturday and Sunday to accommodate the annual Asian multicultural festival.

York Region Transit is detouring buses during the event.

8 Kennedy

From 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 26 until 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, southbound buses operate on their regular route to Kennedy and Denison Street, then detour:

eastward along Denison;
southward along Old Kennedy Road; and then
westward along Steeles Avenue East to Kennedy,
resuming their regular route eastward along Kennedy.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Kennedy Road at Gorvette Road and Steeles Avenue East.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route.
