City buying more land to extend Spadina subway

The City of Toronto wants to buy more property for the project to extend the Spadina leg of the TTC’s 1 Yonge - University - Spadina subway from Downsview Station to the Vaughan Corporate Centre.

On Wedensday, June 30, the third of a series of ads in the Toronto Star officially notify the public that the City intends to expropriate parts of 1280 - 1300 Finch Avenue West, 1 Four Winds Drive, 3926 - 3932 and 3940 Keele Street, 44 - 46 and 50 Romfield Drives to build and operate the subway beneath the properties, and, specifically to build the future *Finch West Station *and bus terminal. (Provinicial legislation requires the City to advertise expropriations three times.)

Eventually, the land at 1280 - 1300 Finch West will form part of the bus terminal. Part of the land at 3940 Keele will serve as an pedestrian tunnel entrance and the main entrance to the station. The City requires the other properties to detour roads and allow construction equipment access to the site.

The City has previously advertised that it intended to buy parts of 3875 Keele Street, 11 - 15, 23, 25 - 27, 40 and 42 - 44 Kodiak Crescent and 1140, 1150 and 1170 Sheppard Avenue West in February.

The City also bought land on the west side of Keele Street between Finch and Sheppard Avenues West, on Finch Avenue West and St. Regis Crescent in April, 2009 and January, 2010.
