After Labour Day, everyone goes back to work, back to school — back to reality — after the lazy days of summer.
The TTC ends its summer schedules, basically reversing many of the changes it made on Sunday, June 20. You’ll find more frequent service on many routes throughout the TTC system, starting tomorrow, Sunday, September 5.
However, the TTC is also increasing service over and above simply returning to the same service levels it offered passengers before the summer. It’s increasing service at all times of the week on more than 30 bus, streetcar and subway routes.
Highlights include:
- making 62 different service increases on on 27 routes ;
- making 21 increases Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. The TTC is operating eight more buses and one more streetcar during morning rush hours. It’s operating ten buses and one more streetcar during afternoon rush hours.
Since more people are riding the TTC than did in 2010, and as ridership continues to grow, the TTC will be adding more service to meet demand.

Resuming service along branches of current routes
38A Highland Creek
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC resumes operating buses along the 38A branch between the University of Toronto’s Scarborough Campus and Scarborough Centre Station. Buses serve each stop along the branch from about 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
191A Highway 27 rocket
More passengers are traveling to and from Humber College’s North Campus during the fall. Starting Tuesday, September 7 the TTC again operates buses along the 191A branch between the campus and Kipling Station. Southbound buses start their trips at Humber College at 9:26, 9:46, 10:06 and 10:26 a.m. Northbound buses leave Kipling Station at 8:50, 9:10, 9:30, 9:50, 10:10 and 10:30 a.m., and end their trips at Humber.
67A Pharmacy
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC resumes operating buses along the 67A branch between Craigton Drive (north of Eglinton Avenue East) and Victoria Park Station Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours.
Canceling branches of current routes
29B Dufferin (to Ontario Place)
Tuesday, August 10 was the last day this year that buses operated along this branch through Exhibition Place closer to Ontario Place.
(Exhibition Place closed various roadways so that event crews could start setting up and preparing for the Canadian National Exhibition.)
Service resumes in May, 2011.
30B Lambton
Labour Day, Monday, September 6 is the last day this year that the TTC extends the route into High Park Saturdays, Sundays and holidays along the 30B branch. Starting Tuesday, September 7, all buses start and end their trips at High Park Station at all times of the week.
The TTC is also increasing the frequency and decreasing the frequency of service along the route and adjusting the schedule of the route at different times of the week.
72B Pape via Commissioners & Cherry St
Labour Day, Monday, September 6 is the last day this year that the TTC operates buses along this branch of the route Mondays to Fridays before 7 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays after 7 p.m. At all other times of the week, buses operate along the 72A Pape via Commissioners branch.
The TTC continues to extend all branches of the route to Donlands Station during construction at Pape Station.

87 Cosburn
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC operates a bus along a new westbound trip, leaving Main Street Station at 9:22 a.m. Mondays to Fridays.
The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.
100 Flemingdon Park
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC operates a bus along a new eastbound trip, leaving Eglinton Station at 9:38 a.m. Mondays to Fridays.
It also operates a bus along a new northbound trip, leaving Broadview Station at 10:39 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
The TTC is also increasing the frequency of the service along the route.
54 Lawrence East
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC operates buses along two new eastbound trips, leaving Eglinton Station at 10:20 and 10:50 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus serves all stops along the 54A branch to Lawrence Avenue East and Starspray Boulevard.
The TTC is also increasing the frequency of the service along the route.
52 Lawrence West
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC operates a bus along a new westbound trip, leaving Lawrence Station at 7:48 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus serves all stops along the route to Jane Street, where it ends its trip.

58 Malton
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC operates a bus along a new westbound trip, leaving Lawrence West Station at 7:22 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus serves all stops along the route to Jane Street, where it ends its trip.

Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC again resumes service along this branch of the route Mondays to Fridays before 7 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays after 7 p.m. At all other times of the week, buses continue to operate along the 72B Pape via Commissioners and Cherry Beach branch.
The TTC continues to extend all branches of the route to Donlands Station during construction at Pape Station.

Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC operates buses along two new northbound trips, leaving Eglinton West Station at 6:58 and 7:23 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
86 Scarborough
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC operates a bus along a new eastbound trip, leaving Kennedy Station at 9:20 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus serves all stops along the 86D branch to Lawrence Avenue East and Beechgrove Drive.
The TTC also operates a bus along another new eastbound trip, leaving Kennedy Station at 6:39 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus serves all stops along the main 86 branch to Meadowvale Road and Sheppard Avenue East.
The TTC is also decreasing service along another branch of the route and increasing the frequency of service along the entire route.

All southbound buses operating along the 29 Dufferin route end their trips at the Dufferin Gate Loop at all other times of the week - from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and after 10 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Labour Day, Monday, September 6 is the last day this year that the TTC operates later buses along the route to and from the Toronto Zoo and operates buses along this branch of the route seven days a week.

Fewer people want to travel along the route to and from Harbourfront, the Island ferry docks and other attractions along the waterfront in the fall. At the same, more people want to travel to and from the businesses along Spadina Avenue north of King Street West.
The TTC revises the service by short-turning more cars at King Street West and Spadina Avenue instead of at the loop at Queen’s Quay West and Lower Spadina Avenue and operates fewer streetcars along the route at various times of the route.
Starting Sunday, September 5, the TTC operates three fewer streetcars along the route, but slightly increases the frequency of service, Sundays and holidays from about 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. North of King Street West, cars serve each stop along the route every 2 minutes 10 seconds, instead of every 2 minutes 13 seconds. The TTC revises the service by short-turning more cars at King Street West and Spadina Avenue instead of at the loop at Queen’s Quay West and Lower Spadina Avenue and operates fewer streetcars along the route at various times of the route.
Starting Tuesday, September 7, more cars start and end their trips at King Street West and Spadina Avenue, instead of at Queens Quay West and Lower Spadina Avenue, from about 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Every xx car along the route continues along Queens Quay West and through the tunnel under Bay Street to Union Station.
Even though the TTC’s operating less service to the waterfront for the fall, it’s also slightly increasing the frequency of service along the entire route.

Adjusting the schedules of current routes
17 Birchmount
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC adjusts the schedule of a Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush-hour bus to accommodate passengers traveling from Mary Ward School.
The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.
49 Bloor West
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC adjusts the schedule of a Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush-hour bus to accommodate passengers traveling from Silverthorne Collegiate.
Starting Sunday, September 12, the TTC no longer interlines buses operating along the route at Kipling Station with buses operating along the 30 Lambton route into High Park, from about 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Saturdays for the summer.
The TTC’s also increasing the frequency of service along the route at other times of the week.
43 Kennedy
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC adjusts the schedule of a Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush-hour bus to accommodate passengers traveling from Mary Ward School.
The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.
30 Lambton
Starting Sunday, September 12, the TTC no longer interlines buses operating along the route at Kipling Station with buses operating along the 49 Bloor West route Sundays and holidays from about 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Starting Saturday, September 11, it no longer interlines the route with buses operating along the 112 West Mall route Sundays from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route at other times of the week.
71 Runnymede
To accommodate construction at Runnymede Station, starting Sunday, September 5, the TTC interlines buses operating along the main 71 branch to Gunn’s Loop (on St. Clair Avenue West, west of Keele Street) with buses operating along the 77 Swansea route all day, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
3 Scarborough rapid transit
Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC adds more time to the schedule, to give each train enough time to complete each trip for the summer. Trains operate every 3 minutes 50 seconds, instead of every 3 minutes 40 seconds, Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Trains operate every 5 minutes 45 seconds, instead of every 5½ minutes, at all other times of the week.
510 Spadina
Fewer people want to travel along the route to and from Harbourfront, the Island ferry docks and other attractions along the waterfront in the fall. At the same, more people want to travel to and from the business along Spadina Avenue north of King Street West.
The TTC revises the service by short-turning more cars at King Street West and Spadina Avenue instead of at the loop at Queen’s Quay West and Lower Spadina Avenue.
Starting Sunday, September 5, all streetcars operate between Spadina Station and Lower Spadina Avenue and Queen’s Quay West only from 5 until 6 a.m. seven days a week. Every third car operates between Spadina and Union Stations - and all other cars operate between Spadina Station and King Street West — from about 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sundays and holidays. From about 6 until 9 a.m. and after 7 p.m., all cars operate to Union.

From about 9 a.m. until noon, every second car operates to Union and from about 6 until 9 a.m. and after 10 p.m. all cars operate to Union.
The TTC is also increasing and decreasing the frequency of service along the route at different times of the week and making other changes to the route.
77 Swansea
To accommodate construction at Runnymede Station, starting Sunday, September 5, the TTC interlines buses operating along 77 Swansea route with buses operating the main 71 Runnymede branch to Gunn’s Loop (on St. Clair Avenue West, west of Keele Street) all day, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
The TTC is also increasing and decreasing the frequency of service along the route at other times of the week.
112 West Mall

Making other changes to current routes
511 Bathurst
Starting Sunday, September 12, the TTC operates CLRVs (Canadian light rail vehicles), instead of ALRVs (articulated light rail vehicles or “bendy” streetcars), along the route seven days a week, including all day Sundays and holidays.
6 Bay
Starting Sunday, September 5, the TTC makes operates only accessible buses along the route and equips all buses with bike racks.
Buses operating along the route will be newer, but that means that bus fans can no longer gain glimpse classic GMC “New Look” buses on Bay Street or anywhere in downtown Toronto.
502 Downtowner
Construction at Bingham and McCaul Loops has ended. Starting Tuesday, September 7, the TTC resumes operating streetcars, instead of buses, along the route. Streetcars operate every 12 minutes Mondays to Fridays until 7 p.m. (Buses, which can carry far fewer passengers than streetcars, operated every 10 minutes along the route.)
509 Harbourfront
Sunday, September 5 is the last day this year that the TTC operates its vintage Presidents Committee Conference (PCC) streetcars along the route Sundays. (The TTC started operating the PCCs on Sunday, May 9.)
Labour Day, Monday, September 6 is the last day this year that the TTC operates with a special procedure to collect fares from passengers boarding the cars at stops along Queen’s Quay West and in the Queen’s Quay Station Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The special fare collection process — allowing riders to board by any door — started on Sunday, May 9.
Starting Tuesday, September 7, all passengers must pay their fare when they board the streetcars at all stops along the route, except in the Union Station terminal. They may only board the cars at the front door, except in the Union Station terminal.
503 Kingston Rd tripper

Transit agencies can save resources - meaning the number of drivers and vehicles they require to operate effective service - by interlining two or more routes sharing a common terminal. For example, on weekends, when northbound buses operating along the 15 Evans route arrive at Royal York Station, they continue northbound along the 48 Rathburn route.
