Steeles / McCowan construction affects TTC buses,
September 6 to 10



Update — September 16, 4:10 p.m.: The TTC has identified one more loop that it plans to rebuild — at Victoria Park Avenue.


The TTC and York Region Transit have started a project to rebuild six bus loops just north of Steeles Avenue East in Markham.

The TTC is detouring various routes while work proceeds. (It’s already detouring buses operating along the 130 Middlefield and 353 Steeles East overnight routes during work at the loop on the east side of Middlefield Road north of Steeles East.)

Next up: the loop on the east side of McCowan Road.

The TTC is detouring buses operating along the 129 McCowan North and (probably) 302 Danforth Rd - McCowan overnight routes while the loop is closed, starting tomorrow, Monday, September 6.

129 McCowan North

From Monday, September 6 until Friday, September 10, southbound buses start their trips on Gillingham Avenue at McCowan Road, then proceed:

southward along McCowan Road to just opposite the McCowan / Steeles Loop,
resuming their regular route southward along McCowan.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • in Steeles / McCowan Loop and

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to McCowan Road and Steeles Avenue East, then detour:

westward along Steeles East;
northward along Hillcroft Drive; and then
eastward along Gillingham Avenue to McCowan Road,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on McCowan Road north of Steeles Avenue East and
  • in Steeles / McCowan Loop.

Only buses that usually turn in the Steeles / McCowan loop are detouring. Buses operating along the 129A branch continue to serve north- and southbound stops on McCowan Road between 16th Avenue and Steeles Avenue East.

302 Danforth Rd - McCowan

From Tuesday, September 7 until Friday, September 10, southbound buses start their trips on Gillingham Avenue at McCowan Road, then proceed:

southward along McCowan Road to just opposite the McCowan / Steeles Loop,
resuming their regular route southward along McCowan.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • in Steeles / McCowan Loop and
  • on McCowan Road at Steeles Avenue East.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to McCowan Road and Steeles Avenue East, then detour:

westward along Steeles East;
northward along Hillcroft Drive; and then
eastward along Gillingham Avenue to McCowan Road,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on McCowan Road north of Steeles Avenue East and
  • in Steeles / McCowan Loop.

Construction at the Steeles / Middlefield Loop started on Monday, August 30 and continues until Wednesday, September 8.

Construction of four more TTC loops north of Steeles Avenue East follows:

  • at Warden Avenue from Wednesday, September 8 until Monday, September 14;
  • at Brimley Road from Tuesday, September 14 until Friday, September 17;
  • at Victoria Park Avenue from Tuesday, September 20 until December; and
  • at Esna Park Drive from Wednesday, September 21 until Friday, October 8.
