The GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon in downtown Toronto and other special events in the Greater Golden Horseshoe affect transit services this weekend.

This part of the post describes events that affect transit in Toronto and Waterloo.

Toronto events affecting transit services include: Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival (October 16) and the GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon (October 17)


Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival

The City of Toronto is closing

  • Yonge Street between Dundas and Queen Streets West

on Friday evening and all day Saturday to accommodate the festival honouring Canada’s Walk of Fame.

The TTC is detouring buses while the street is closed.

320 Yonge overnight

From about 2 until 5 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge and Gerrard Streets, then detour:

westward along Gerrard Street West;
southward along Bay Street; and then
eastward along Adelaide Street East to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Yonge Street at Elm Street, Dundas Street West, across from #247 Yonge and Shuter Street and at Queen, Richmond and Adelaide Streets West.

Instead, southbound buses drop off and pick up passengers from temporary stops

  • on Bay Street at Elm Street, Dundas Street West, Hagerman Street, Nathan Phillips Square, Queen Street West and south of Richmond Street West.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge and Richmond Streets, then detour:

westward along Richmond Street West;
northward along Bay Street; and then
eastward along Gerrard Street West to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Yonge.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Yonge Street at Richmond and Queen Streets East, Shuter Street and Dundas Street West, across from Elm Street and at Gerrard Street East.

Instead, northbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Bay Street at Queen Street West, Albert Street, across from Hagerman Street, at Dundas Street West, Elm Street and Gerrard Street West.
GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon

The City of Toronto is closing

  • the southbound lanes of Yonge Street between Ellerslie Avenue and Belmont Street / Aylmer Avenue
  • the westbound lanes of Chaplin Crescent between Yonge Street and Oriole Parkway;
  • the southbound lanes of Oriole Parkway between Chaplin Crescent and Lonsdale Road,
  • the westbound lanes of Lonsdale Road between Oriole Parkway and Spadina Road,
  • the southbound lanes of Spadina Road between Lonsdale Road and Austin Terrace,
  • the southbound lanes of Kendal Avenue between Davenport Road and Macpherson Avenue,
  • the eastbound lanes of Macpherson Avenue between Kendal Avenue and Davenport Road,
  • the southeastbound lanes of Davenport Road between Macpherson Avenue and Belmont Street,
  • the westbound lanes of King Street East between River and Sumach Streets,
  • the westbound lanes of Front Street East between Eastern Avenue and Church Street,
  • Wellington Streets East and West between Church Street and University Avenue,
  • University Avenue,
  • Queen’s Park Crescents East and West
  • Wellesley Street West between Queen’s Park Crescents East and West.
  • York Street between Queen’s Quay West and Front Street West

and other streets on Sunday morning to accommodate the marathon, half-marathon, 5k and relay races supporting the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation. The event affects GO Transit buses traveling to or from the Union Station and York Mills GO Bus Terminals.

The TTC is also detouring several routes during the event. Although Toronto Police Service officers will direct traffic at major intersections, the event may delay or detour all transit vehicles traveling near the course. Plan on adding extra time to any transit trip you intend to make on Sunday morning, especially for routes that cross or travel along the Marathon course.

From about 7:30 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Highway 401 and Avenue Road, then detour:

southward along Avenue Road;
eastward along Wilson Avenue; and then
northward into the temporary York Mills GO Bus Terminal at the northwest corner of Wilson Avenue and Yonge Street,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Yonge Street at William Carson Drive.

Westbound buses start their trips at the temporary York Mills GO Bus Terminal, then proceed:

westward along Wilson Avenue; and then
northward along Avenue Road to Highway 401,
resuming their regular route westward along the 401.

31 Guelph / Georgetown - Union

21 Milton / Mississauga - Union

From 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway and the ramp to York, Bay and Yonge Streets, then detour:

eastward along the Gardiner, the ramp to Lower Jarvis Street and Lake Shore Boulevard East;
southward along Richardson Street;
westward along Queens Quay East and West; and then
northward along Bay Street to the Union Station GO Bus Terminal,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses start their trips at the Union Station GO Bus Terminal, as usual, then proceed:

southward along Yonge Street;
eastward along Lower Jarvis Street;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard East, the ramp onto the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway and the Gardiner,
resuming their regular westbound route.

Buses serve all regular stops.

65 Newmarket - Union

From 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, southbound buses operate along their regular route to the Don Valley Parkway and the ramp to Lake Shore Boulevard East, then proceed:

southward along the ramp to Lake Shore East (Don Roadway);
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevards East and West; and then
northward along Bay Street to the Union Station GO Bus Terminal,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips at the Union Station GO Bus Terminal, as usual, then proceed:

southward along Yonge Street;
eastward along Queens Quay East;
northward along Lower Jarvis Street;
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard East; and then
northward along Don Roadway and the ramp onto the Don Valley Parkway,
resuming their regular route northward along the Parkway.

Buses serve all regular stops.

94 Oshawa - Yorkdale local via Highway 2

From about 7:30 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Highway 401 and Yonge Street, then detour:

westward along the 401;
southward along Avenue Road;
eastward along Wilson Avenue; and then
northward into the temporary York Mills GO Bus Terminal at the northwest corner of Wilson Avenue and Yonge Street, then continue:
westward along Wilson Avenue; and
northward along Avenue Road to Highway 401,
resuming their regular route westward along the 401.

eastward along Lake Shore East and West; and then
northward along Bay Street to the Union Station GO Bus Terminal,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips at the Union Station GO Bus Terminal, as usual, then proceed:

southward along Yonge Street;
eastward along Queens Quay East;
northward along Lower Jarvis Street;
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard East; and then
northward along Don Roadway and the ramp onto the Don Valley Parkway,

60 Wonderland - York Mills express

From about 7:30 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Highway 401 and Avenue Road, then detour:

southward along Avenue Road;
eastward along Wilson Avenue; and then
northward into the temporary York Mills GO Bus Terminal at the northwest corner of Wilson Avenue and Yonge Street,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses start their trips at the temporary York Mills GO Bus Terminal, then proceed:

Until 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Oriole Parkway and Chaplin Crescent, then detour:

westward along St. Clair Avenue West;
southward along Avenue Road;
westward along Lowther Avenue;
southward along Bedford Road;
westward along Prince Arthur Avenue; and then
southward into St. George Station,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Oriole Parkway south of Chaplin Crescent, at Kilbarry Road and across from Gormley Avenue and Walmsley Boulevard,
  • on Avenue Road south of Lonsdale Road, at Heath Street West and St. Clair Avenue West,
  • on Queen’s Park at Museum Station,
  • on Queen’s Park Crescent West at Trinity College, Hart House and the University of Toronto Library and
  • on Queen’s Park Crescent East, just north of College Street.

Northbound buses start their trips at St. George Station, then proceed:

northward along Bedford Road; and then
eastward along Prince Arthur Avenue to Avenue Road,
resuming their regular route northward along Avenue Road.

From about 8 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants pass along Davenport Road between Dupont and Belmont Streets and Wellington Street West at Bay Street.

506 Carlton

From about 8 a.m. until noon on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants pass along University Avenue / Queen’s Park at College Street.

127 Davenport

Until noon on Sunday, October 17, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Davenport Road and Bathurst Street, then detour:

southward along Bathurst;
eastward along Dupont Street to Spadina Road,
resuming their regular route southward along Spadina.

  • on Davenport Road east of Dartnell Avenue,
  • on Kendal Avenue south of Davenport Road and
  • on Macpherson Avenue at Spadina Road.

From about 8 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants pass along Davenport Road between Dupont Street and Bedford Road.

34 Eglinton East
100 Flemingdon Park

From about 7:30 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants pass along Yonge Street at Eglinton Avenue.

33 Forest Hill

Until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Spadina and Burton Roads, then detour:

westward along Burton;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along St. Clair Avenue West; and then
eastward into St. Clair West Station terminal,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Spadina Road south of Strathearne Boulevard, at Lonsdale Road, Heath Street West and St. Clair Avenue West and
  • on St. Clair Avenue West west of Tweedsmuir Avenue.

Northbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, westbound buses start their trips in Davisville Station terminal, as usual, then proceed:

northward along Yonge;
westward along Imperial Street West; and then
southward along Oriole Parkway to Chaplin Crescent,
resuming their regular route westward along Chaplin.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

on Chaplin Crescent at Duplex Avenue, Lascelles Boulevard and Oriole Parkway.

509 Harbourfront

Until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants cross Queens Quay West at York Street.

504 King

From about 9 until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, westbound streetcars operate along their regular route to Queen and King Streets East, then detour:

westward along Queen; and then
southward along Church Street to King East,
resuming their regular route westward along King.

Westbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on King Street East at River, Sumach and Sackville Streets, across from Trinity Street, at Parliament, Ontario, Sherbourne, Jarvis and Chruch Streets.

Instead, they drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Queen Street East at River, Sumach, Sackville, Parliament, Ontario, Jarvis and Church Streets.

Eastbound cars reverse the detour routing.

Eastbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on King Street East at Jarvis, Sherbourne, Ontario, Parliament, Trinity, Sackville, Sumach and St. Lawrence Streets.

Instead, they pick up and drop off passengers at temporary stops

Also expect delays from about 8 a.m. until noon, while marathon participants pass along University Avenue at King Street West.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route, but eastbound also expect some delays while marathon participants pass along Front Street East between Parliament and Berkeley Streets.

Until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Mill and Parliament Streets, then detour:

southward along Parliament;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard East;
northward along Lower Sherbourne Street;
westward along The Esplanade;
northward along Yonge Street;
westward along King Street West; and then
southward along Bay Street to Wellington Street West,
resuming their regular route southward along Bay.

  • on Berkeley Street at Front Street East and The Esplanade and
  • on The Esplanade at Princess and Lower Sherbourne Streets.
65 Parliament

From about 8 a.m. until noon on Sunday, October 17, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Parliament Street and Gerrard Street East, then detour:

westward along Gerrard East;
southward along Sherbourne and Lower Sherbourne Streets; and then
eastward along The Esplanade to Princess Street, ending their trips.

  • on Parliament Street across from Oak Street, at Dundas Street East, Shuter Street, Queen, Richmond, Adelaide and King Streets East,

From about 7:30 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while race participants pass along Yonge Street at St. Clair Avenue and Spadina Road at St. Clair Avenue West.

85 Sheppard East

From about 7:30 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants pass along Yonge Street at Sheppard Avenue.

75 Sherbourne

Until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays as marathon participants pass along Front Street East at Lower Sherbourne / Sherbourne Streets.

510 Spadina

Until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants cross Queens Quay West at York Street.

124 Sunnybrook

Until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants pass along Yonge Street at Lawrence Avenue.

94 Wellesley

Until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Harbord and St. George Streets, then detour:

northward along St. George;
eastward along Bloor Street West; and then
southward along Bay Street to Wellesley Street West,
resuming their regular route eastward along Wellesley West.

  • on Hoskin Avenue at Wycliffe College and
  • on Wellesley Street West at the Ontario Legislature Building, Queen’s Park Crescent East and Bay Street.

Until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants pass along Yonge Street at Wilson Avenue / York Mills Road.

98 Willowdale - Senlac

Until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays while marathon participants pass along Yonge Street at Sheppard Avenue.

96 Wilson

From about 7:30 until 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, expect delays in while marathon participants pass along Yonge Street at Wilson Avenue / York Mills Road.

97 Yonge

Until about 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Finch Avenue, then detour:

eastward along Finch Avenue East;
southward along Willowdale Avenue;
eastward along Sheppard Avenue East;
southward along Bayview Avenue;
westward along Lawrence Avenue East;
southward along Mount Pleasant Road;
eastward along Davisville Avenue;
southward along Yonge Street; and then
**westward into Davisville Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Yonge Street between Finch Avenue and Davisville Station.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route.

Also expect delays until 11 a.m. in the area of Davisville Station while marathon participants pass along Yonge Street and Chaplin Crescent.

Until 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 17, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Finch Avenue, then detour:

eastward along Finch Avenue East;
southward along Willowdale Avenue;
eastward along Sheppard Avenue East;
southward along Bayview Avenue;
westward along Lawrence Avenue East;
southward along Mount Pleasant Road; and then
westward along Charles Street East to Yonge,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops on Yonge Street between Finch Avenue and Charles Street.

Kitchener - Waterloo Oktoberfest

Grand River Transit is providing free service on all routes at certain times and extending the hours of service on many routes this weekend.

All Grand River Transit routes

All buses operating along all routes after 11 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 until about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 are free of fare.

35 Eastbridge

Later buses until about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17.

All buses after 11 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 until about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 are free of fare.

5 Erb West

Later eastbound buses leave Rüdesheimer Garten, (Waterloo Recreation Complex), 101 Father David Bauer Drive, at 2:15, 1:45 and 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 and proceed to King Street South and Erb Street in Uptown Waterloo.

Later westbound buses leave Rüdesheimer Garten at 11:50 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 and at 1:20, 2:05 and 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 and proceed to Keats Way and Erbsville Road.

All buses after 11 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 until about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 are free of fare.

9 Lakeshore
13 Laurelwood

Later buses until about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17.

All buses after 11 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 until about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 are free of fare.

7 Mainline

Buses operate every 20 minutes from midnight until about 2 a.m. along the main part of the route south of University Avenue on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17.

All buses are free of fare after 11 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16.

GRT is detouring the buses during the Oktoberfest Car Show.

8 University via Weber

Later inbound buses leave Heidelburg Haus (Moses Springer Arena, 150 Lincoln Road) and proceed to the Charles Street Terminal at 11:40 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 and at 12:20 and 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17.

Later outbound buses leave Heidelburg Haus (Moses Springer Arena, 150 Lincoln Road) and proceed to University Avenue and King Street North at 11:25 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 and at 12:10, 1:15 and 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17.

All buses after 11 p.m. on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 until about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 are free of fare.


Inbound buses operate toward downtown.
