Members of Clean Train Coalition head to Queen's Park
to present petition urging electric trains, December 7

Members of the Clean Train Coalition are presenting petitions with more than 15,000 signatures to the Government of Ontario at the Ontario Legislature tomorrow, Tuesday, December 7.

The petitions urge the Government to “electrify” the Georgetown South corridor and the Air - Rail link — by operating electric, instead of diesel, trains.

In a news release, the coalition says “the petitions will be presented with support of members of both opposition parties as well as the Liberal government.”

Metrolinx proposes to start operating the the Air-Rail Link with diesel trains, but then to electrify the line sometime in the future. According to the coalition, “this approach wastes limited tax dollars and has a greater negative impact on nearby communities than expanding the services using electric trains from the beginning”.
