TTC staff conduct tour of Harvey Shops, December 11

On Saturday, December 11 at 10 a.m., TTC staff are offering you an opportunity to look inside the Harvey Shops, where the TTC repairs many of its buses and streetcars. They’ll guide you through the shop, explaining what the various highly skilled tradespeople such as welders, tool and die makers, blacksmiths and millwrights do. One of the only two working blacksmith shops in Canada is in the shops.

You need to register in advance to take the tour, but you must pay cash at the door. Space is limited to just 20 people, so you should arrive early. Meet the guide at the security house at 1138 Bathurst Street (west side of Bathurst, south of Davenport Road). You must bring a valid photo ID card.

The TTC will schedule more tours of Harvey Shop next year and has also scheduled tours of other TTC facilities.

Register before the tour

You must register before the tour by e-mailing: publictours@ttc.ca. Staff accept registrations on a “first-come, first-serve” basis, but they will confirm your registration within five business days. When you register, please include the name, date of birth, address and telephone number for everyone that you’re registering.

Pay cash only on the day of the tour

You can only join the tour, after registering, by paying cash. (No credit or debit cards.) The cost is $15 for each person 13 years of age or older and $5 for each person 12 years or younger.

Bring photo ID cards on the day of the tour

The TTC requires everyone to show a valid photo identification card on the day of the tour. They’ll accept:

  • valid driver’s licenses;
  • passports;
  • provincial health cards with photo;
  • permanent resident cards;
  • citizenship cards;
  • aboriginal identification cards; or
  • age of majority cards.
More tours of Harvey Shops

The TTC has not scheduled any more tours of the shops this year, but tours resume in 2011.

Tours of other facilities

Throughout the year, the TTC is scheduling tours of other TTC facilities, including Lower Bay Station, Mount Dennis Bus Garage, Greenwood Shops and the TTC Operations Training Centre.
