Part 2 -- More service to universities and colleges,
starting January 3



Although transit agencies continued to operate buses to colleges and universities Mondays to Fridays throughout the holidays, they also canceled some extra trips that usually add extra service while classes are in session. Most are resuming these trips and adding even more extra service this week.


This part of the post describes how transit agencies are increasing services to: the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), the University of Toronto’s Mississauga and Scarborough Campuses, the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and York University’s Glendon and Keele Campuses after the holidays.

Part 1 describes how transit agencies are increasing services to: Brock University, Centennial College’s Ashtonbee, Ellesmere and Progress Campuses, Durham College’s Oshawa Campus, Conestoga College’s Doon and Waterloo Campuses, Fleming College’s Sutherland Campus, Humber College’s Lakeshore and North Campuses, McMaster University, Niagara College’s Glendale and Welland Campuses, Redeemer University College, Sheridan College’s Trafalgar Campus, Trent University’s Symons Campus and the University of Guelph after the holidays.

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO resumes operating buses along the route.

52 Oshawa - York U

Starting Sunday, January 2, GO resumes operating buses along the route Sundays or holiday Mondays.

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO resumes operating the eastbound buses that leave the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 8:15 and 9:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays.

Starting Monday, January 3, MiWay resumes operating regular service along the route.

Buses operate along the entire route between Clarkson GO Station and the City Centre Terminal every 17 to 18 minutes Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours. They operate along the entire route about every 15 minutes during afternoon rush hours and about every 27 minutes after 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays from about 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., buses operate along the entire route every 34 minutes, while some buses operate only between U of T Mississauga and the City Centre every 17 minutes.

Starting Saturday, January 8, they operate along the entire route every 17 to 18 minutes Saturdays.

Starting Sunday, January 9, they operate along the entire route about every 28 minutes Sundays and holidays.

Starting Monday, January 3, the TTC ends holiday service and increases the frequency of service along the route from about 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

West of the campus, buses again operate every 6 minutes, instead of every 7½ minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. They operate every 6 minutes, instead of every 8 minutes during afternoon rush hours.

East of the campus, buses again operate every 6 minutes, instead of every 7½ minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Buses operate every 12 minutes, instead of every 16 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

Both GO Transit and Grand River Transit are resuming extra service to and from the universities.


GO Transit
25B U of Waterloo - Square One express

Starting New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1, GO operates a bus along a new westbound trip. The bus leaves the Square One GO Bus Terminal at 1:55 p.m. Sundays and holidays, then operates express — without stopping — to the William G. Davis Computer Sciences Centre on the University of Waterloo Campus. The bus arrives on campus at 3:05 p.m.

Starting Tuesday, January 4, the westbound bus that formerly left Square One at 6:30 a.m. Mondays to Fridays and arrived at the Davis Centre at 7:50 a.m. now operates along the new 25C U of Waterloo - Square One express via Laurier University route.

Starting Friday, January 7, the eastbound buses that formerly left the William G. Davis Computer Sciences Centre on the University of Waterloo Campus at 2:25, 4:20, 5:20 and 6:25 p.m. Fridays leave ten minutes earlier at 2:15, 4:10, 5:10 and 6:15 p.m. The buses operate express — without stopping — until the Square One GO Bus Terminal, arriving at 3:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

GO resumes operating all other regular Friday-only service Friday, January 7.

25C U of Waterloo - Square One express via Laurier University

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO resumes operating the westbound bus that leaves Square One GO Bus Terminal at 6:30 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus operates express — without stopping — until University Avenue West and Hazel Street (at Wilfrid Laurier University), arriving at 7:40 a.m. The bus then continues to the William G. Davis Computer Sciences Centre on the University of Waterloo Campus, arriving at 7:50 a.m. GO now identifies this bus as operating along the 25C branch.

Starting Thursday, January 6, GO operates buses on four new eastbound trips. The buses leave the Davis Centre at 4:20, 5:20, 6:25 and 7:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. They proceed to the Wilfrid Laurier University stop on University Avenue West and Hazel Street, arriving at 4:23, 5:23, 6:28 and 7:33 p.m. They then operate express — without stopping — until Square One, arriving at 5:45, 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 p.m.

Starting Friday, January 7, GO operates buses on another new eastbound trip. The bus leaves the Davis Centre at 2:25 p.m. Fridays only. It arrives at Wilfrid Laurier University at 2:28 p.m. then operates express — without stopping — until Square One, arriving at 3:45 p.m.

Also starting Friday, January 7, GO operates buses on two new westbound trips. The buses leave the Square One GO Bus Terminal at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Fridays only. They operate express — without stopping — until the Wilfrid Laurier University stop on University Avenue West and Hazel Street, arriving at 5:40 and 6:40 p.m. They continue to the William G. Davis Computer Sciences Centre, arriving at 5:50 and 6:50 p.m.

25D Wilfrid Laurier University - Square One express

Starting Friday, January 7, GO operates a single eastbound bus along this new route. The bus leaves the Wilfrid Laurier University stop on University Avenue West across from Hazel Street at 1:30 p.m. Fridays. It then operates express — without stopping — until the Square One GO Bus Terminal, arriving at 2:45 p.m.


Grand River Transit
12 Conestoga Mall - Fairview Park

Starting Monday, January 3, GRT increases the frequency of service through the City of Waterloo.

Buses again operate every 15 minutes from about 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. between Highland Hills and Conestoga Mall terminals.

iXpress

Starting Monday, January 3, GRT again operates the southbound bus that leaves the U Waterloo iXpress station at 7:05 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives in the Charles Street Terminal at 7:20 p.m.)

It also operates the northbound bus that leaves Fairview iXpress station at 7:40 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives at the U Waterloo iXpress station at 8:10 a.m.

9 Lakeshore

Starting Monday, January 3, GRT again operates the southbound buses that leave Parkside Drive and Cedarbrae Avenue at 10:05 and 10:53 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses pass Hazel Street and University Avenue West — Wilfrid Laurier University — at 10:14 and 11:02 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. They arrive at the William G. Davis Computer Sciences Centre at the University of Waterloo at 10:20 and 11:05 a.m. and 6:25 p.m.)

It also operates the northbound buses that leave the Davis Centre at 10:22 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses pass University West and Hazel at 10:28 a.m. and 2:38 p.m. They arrive at Cedarbrae and Parkside at 10:28 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.)

It’s also increasing the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses drop off and pick up passengers from each stop along the route every 15 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays.

The westbound bus that leaves Conestoga Mall at 3:18 p.m. Mondays to Fridays again leaves three minutes earlier at 3:18 p.m.

13 Laurelwood

Starting Monday, January 3, GRT increases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses again drop off and pick up passengers from each stop along the route every 15 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes.

7 Mainline

Starting Monday, January 3, GRT again operates the northbound buses that leave Waterloo Town Square at 8 and 8:30 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses operate along Columbia Street West and arrive at Columbia West and Seagram Drive at 8:25 and 8:54 a.m.)


York University Glendon Campus

Starting Monday, January 3, the TTC ends holiday service and increases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays from about 1:30 until 7 p.m. Buses again drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 7½ minutes, instead of every 10 minutes.


York University Keele Campus


Brampton Transit, GO Transit and the TTC are decreasing service to and from the university during the holidays.

Starting Monday, January 3, Brampton Transit again operates the eastbound bus that leaves the Downtown Brampton Terminal at 9:10 a.m. (The bus operates along Highway 407 and arrives on campus at 9:55 a.m.)

47D Bramalea - York U

Regular Monday-to-Friday and Monday-to-Thursday service resumes Tuesday, January 4, with buses operating along all trips.

54 Centennial - York U

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO again operates the single westbound bus that serves this route. (The bus leaves Centennial GO Station at 7:25 a.m. Mondays to Fridays and arrives at the Harry W. Arthurs Common at 8 a.m.)

47 Hamilton - York U

Starting Sunday, January 2, GO resumes regular Sunday-or-holiday-Monday service along the route.

48B Meadowvale - York U

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO again operates the eastbound buses that leave Meadowvale GO Station at 8:50, 10 and 11 a.m., noon and 1 and 2 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 9:45, 10:45 and 11:45 a.m. and 12:45, 2:45 and 3:45 p.m.)

It also operates the westbound buses that leave York at 9:05, 10:05 and 11:05 a.m. and 12:05, 1:05, 2:05, 3:05, 7:05, 8:05, 9:05 and 10:05 p.m. (The buses arrive in Meadowvale at 9:50, 10:50 and 11:50 a.m. and 12:50, 1:50, 2:50, 3:50, 7:50, 8:50, 9:50 and 10:50 p.m.)

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO again operates regular Monday-to-Friday service along the routes, with buses operating on all trips.

54 Mount Joy - York U

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO again operates the westbound buses that leave Mount Joy GO Station at 9:15, 10:25 and 11:25 a.m. and 12:25, 1:25, 2:25, 6:25, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 10:10 and 11:10 a.m. and 12:10, 1:10, 2:10, 3:10, 7:10, 8:10 and 9:10 p.m.)

It also operates the eastboundbuses that leave York at 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. (The buses arrive in Mount Joy at 9:10, 10:10 and 11:10 a.m. and 12:10, 1:10, 2:10, 3:10, 7:10, 8:10, 9:10 and 10:10 p.m.)

Friday, December 31 was the last day that GO operated the westbound buses that left Mount Joy GO Station at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, since few passengers were riding these buses. (The buses arrived at the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 8:10 and 9:10 p.m.)

46 Oakville - York U

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO again operates the eastbound buses that leave Oakville GO Station at 12:45 and 7:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 1:55 and 8:25 p.m.)

It operates the westbound buses that leave York at 7:45, 8:45, 9:45 and 10:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive in Oakville at 8:50, 9:50, 10:50 and 11:45 p.m.

52 Oshawa - York U

Starting Sunday, January 2, GO again operates buses along the route Sundays and holidays.

It also operates the westbound buses that leave York at 10 and 11 a.m., noon and 1 and 2 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive in Streetsville at 10:40 and 11:40 a.m. and 12:40, 1:40 and 2:40 p.m.)

Starting Tuesday, January 4, GO again operates buses along the route.

Starting Sunday, January 2, GO again operates buses along the route Sundays and holidays.

Starting Monday, January 3, the TTC ends holiday service and increases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses again drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 12 minutes 30 seconds, instead of every 15 minutes, during morning rush hours. They serve each stop every 12½ minutes, instead of every 15 minutes during afternoon rush hours.

60C Steeles West

Starting Monday, January 3, the TTC ends holiday service and increases the frequency of service along the route from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 6 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes.

Regular service resumes Monday, January 3, 2011.

196 York University rocket

Starting Sunday, January 2, the TTC ends holiday service and increases the frequency of service along the route throughout the week.

Between the campus and Downsview Station, buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 15 minutes all day Sundays and holidays.

Buses serve each stop every 2 minutes Mondays to Fridays before 3 p.m., every 2 minutes 20 seconds from about 3 until 7 p.m., every 3 minutes 40 seconds from about 7 until 10 p.m. and every 11 minutes after 10 p.m.

They serve each stop every 15 minutes Saturday mornings, every 12 minutes Saturday afternoons and every 15 minutes Saturday evenings.

Between Downsview and Sheppard - Yonge Stations, buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 6 minutes Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours, every 8 minutes from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., every 7 minutes during afternoon rush hours and every 11 minutes from about 7 until 10 p.m.

(Starting Saturday, January 8, the TTC is also increasing the Saturday service by operating an earlier bus, leaving Downsview Station at 6:45 a.m. and arriving on campus at 7 a.m.)
