You can use PRESTO cards for child, student, senior fares

Children, students and seniors can now use PRESTO cards to pay their fares and receive the usual discount fare for traveling on GO Transit trains, Burlington Transit buses and (probably) Oakville Transit buses.

If you’re a full-time student, 13 years of age or older, you can get a fare discount with PRESTO. After you’ve bought your your card and registered it online at prestocard.ca, take it, along with a valid student ID card, to a PRESTO “agency” to set your card with a student classification to receive the discount. If you’re a university or college student, you must add the student classification to your PRESTO card each school year.

You can also get a discount if you’re a child 12 years or younger or a senior 65 or older. Again, after you’ve bought your card (or in the case of a child, after your parents or guardians have bought your card) and registered it, you have to take it to a PRESTO “agency” to classify it for child or senior discount fares.

GO Transit trains

Students

If you take the same GO trip each time you travel within a calendar month, your GO fare will be:

  • 1 to 39 rides: 15 percent off the single adult GO fare;
  • 31 to 40 rides: 95 percent off the single adult GO fare;
  • 41 or more rides: 100 percent off the single adult GO fare.

If you don’t take the exact same trip each time you travel on GO within a calendar month, your first 30 rides on GO will be 15 percent off the single adult GO fare. For rides 31 and onwards, your discount will be based on the value of the rides you’ve taken that month.

Seniors and Children

GO fares for children and seniors are 50 percent off the single adult GO fare.
