Strike at McMaster University affects transit services



Update — January 16, 4:59 p.m.: The strike has ended and regular service has resumed onto the campus.


Members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)’s Local 2 went on strike against their employer, McMaster University, starting this morning, Friday, January 7 at 6 a.m. Picketers are now delaying the vehicles entering the campus. (The union represents food-service workers at the university.)

Abouttown, Coach Canada, GO Transit, Greyhound Canada and Hamilton Street Railway drivers will not drop off or pick up passengers on campus, while the strike continues.

Buses heading toward Guelph pick up passengers at the HSR stop on Main Street West across from Bowman Street.

Starting at 6 a.m. on Friday, January 7, buses leaving the Hamilton GO Centre operate along their regular route to Main Street West and Emerson Street, then detour:

southward along Emerson;
westward along Sussex Street; and then
northward along Leland Street to Main West.

The buses then resume their regular route eastward along Main, picking up passengers at the HSR stop at Main and Emerson.

Buses skip their regular stop at the McMaster University GO Bus Terminal.

Buses heading toward the Hamilton GO Centre operate along their regular route to the HSR stop on Main Street West opposite Bowman Street, where they drop off passengers.

They then proceed:

westward along Main West;
southward along Sussex Street;
northward along Leland Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Main.

Buses skip their regular stop at the McMaster University GO Bus Terminal.

eastward along King Street West to Newton Avenue,
resuming their regular route eastward along King West.
