TTC continues to detour buses around Yonge Street fire site

Update — January 11, 7:41 a.m.: The City has reopened Yonge Street and buses have resumed regular service.

The City of Toronto continues to close

  • Yonge Street between Gerrard and Dundas Streets West

while police and fire officials investigate the causes of the catastrophic fire that destroyed the former Empress Hotel at Yonge and Gould Streets Monday, January 3.

The TTC is detouring buses operating along the 97 Yonge and 320 Yonge overnight routes, while the street remains closed.

Southbound buses operate along their regular routes to Yonge and Gerrard Streets, then detour:

westward along Gerrard Street West;
southward along Bay Street; and then
eastward along Dundas Street West to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

(Note that the TTC is exempt from the usual turn restrictions at Yonge and Dundas Streets while Yonge Street is closed north of Dundas.)

  • on Yonge Street at Elm Street and Dundas Street West.

Northbound buses reverse the detour routing.

  • on Yonge Street at Dundas Street East, across from Elm Street and at Gerrard Street East.
