Beer-vat convoy affects transit services (revised),
January 13 to 17

Challenger Motor Freight continues to roll its convoy of flat-bed trucks carrying six giant beer vats from Hamilton to Toronto. The journey started around 9 p.m. on Friday, January 7.

Depending on the weather, the beer-vat convoy should proceed through Mississauga, mostly along Derry Roads West and East between Mississauga and Bramalea Roads overnight tonight.

The convoy sets off around 8 p.m. and arrives at tomorrow’s layover site — on Bramalea Road South, just north of Steeles Avenue East — before 6 a.m. It eventually arrives at its final destination, the Molson / Coors brewery on Carlingview Drive in Etobicoke early Monday, January 17.

The odyssey from Hamilton Harbour involves more than 50 vehicles and police officers from six forces — the Hamilton Police Service, Halton Regional Police, Peel Regional Police, the Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police.

Residents living along the route in the Cities of Hamilton, Burlington, Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan and Toronto and the Towns of Oakville and Milton have experienced (or will experience) brief power and traffic-signal outages as municipal and hydro workers move wires and signals to clear the route of overhead obstructions. Motorists and transit passengers should also expect detours and delays.

The convoy mostly travels late evenings and early mornings to avoid most traffic. It usually sets off around 9 p.m. each evening and ends its journey around 6 a.m. the following morning.
