Keele Station parking lot reopens January 17

Update — January 26, 6:16 p.m.: The lot didn’t open until today.

The winter weather is forcing the TTC to end its project to upgrade the parking lot at Keele Station earlier than it planned.

It will reopen the lot to commuters, starting Monday, January 17.

TTC contractors will finish the job in the spring.

The TTC has closed the lot since Monday, November 15, while contractors

  • removed the pavement;
  • improved the drainage system;
  • repaired the catch basins;
  • installed new electrical feeds to new light standards;
  • installed new guard rails;
  • placed and compacted “granular material” (that probably means “gravel”); and
  • graded and paved parts of the lot.

The TTC previously closed the parking lot at Keele Station from October, 2009 until Tuesday, May 5, 2010, while it replaced the overhead bridge carrying the subway tracks above the lot.

During that work, contractors repaired and replaced parts of the concrete overpass that carries the subway tracks above the parking lot.
