Toronto Transit Commission meets February 2
to review proposals to decrease service along 48 routes

The Toronto Transit Commission will likely decide the fate of weekend and late-evening service along 48 bus routes when it meets next Wednesday, February 2.

Although the Commissioners expect to be considering a staff report that will likely recommend less service along some — maybe even all — of the 48 routes, that report is not yet available for the public. The report likely will reveal concerns and comments from members of the public during this week’s series of public consultation meetings about the TTC’s plans to cut the service.

Among other items, the Commission will also discuss staff reports:

  • recommending the Commission approve the design of the future Steeles West Station on the upcoming extension of the 1 Yonge - University - Spadina subway to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre. This design is considerably different than what the TTC presented during a public open house in February 2010. (You can read the staff report here. (.pdf))
  • awarding contracts for tunneling the northern part of the subway extension and building the future Highway 407 Station to two Spanish companies. (You can read the staff report here. (.pdf))
  • updating the Commissioners on the TTC’s progress in following up on the recommendations of the Customer Service Panel. (You can read the staff report here. (.pdf))

The Commission will also consider a confidential staff report on the proposal to lease a new head office for the TTC.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday, February 2, 1 p.m., Committee Room 2, second floor, City Hall, 100 Queen Street West (at Bay Street).
