Looking inside Greenwood Shop: TTC tour, February 26

On Saturday, February 26 at 10 a.m., TTC staff are offering visitors a rare opportunity to look inside the Greenwood Shop, one of the TTC’s two facilities for repairing and overhauling subway cars. The shop covers about 190,000 square feet (17,600 square metres) and almost 200 employees work on maintaining the vehicles and rebuilding components to support the fleet of subway vehicles and work cars.

From the Transit Toronto archives, read:

  • “The Greenwood Subway Yards” by Aaron Adel and James Bow, here.

You need to register in advance to take the tour, but you must pay cash at the door. Space is limited to just 20 people, so you should arrive early. Meet the guide at the Greenwood Shop administration office, on Greenwood Avenue across from Felstead Avenue. You must bring a valid photo ID card.

Safety requirements: Canadian Standards Association-approved safety shoes, no shorts, no pets.

Access: stairs only

The shop is at 400 Greenwood Avenue. To get there, take a southbound 31 Greenwood bus from Greenwood Station to the first southbound stop on Greenwood Avenue across from Felstead Avenue.

The TTC has scheduled more tours of Greenwood Shop later this year. You can also join tours of other TTC facilities.
