No strike today -- all YRT services operate normally

Update — February 16, 11:09 p.m.: Members of Local 113 have rejected Veolia’s contract offer. Although talks between Veolia and the union will continue, the union says it will go on strike at 12:01 a.m. Monday, February 20.

The members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113 and Veolia Transportation Canada have reached a tentative agreement and have averted strike action.

All York Region Transit and Viva buses operate on their normal schedule today.

Veolia Transportation is one of four private contractors that provide transit services for York Region Transit (YRT)/Viva.

A strike would have involved about 214 Veolia operators and mechanics in YRT’s Southwest Division. The 131 YRT buses in that division serve nearly 28,000 daily riders Mondays to Fridays.
