HSR detours buses during Woodward Avenue construction,
starting February 21

For about four to six weeks, the City of Hamilton is closing:

  • Woodward Avenue between Rennie Street and Walmer Road

for repairs at the Canadian National Railways crossing.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses operating along the 4 Bayfront route, while the roadway is closed.

4 Bayfront

Starting Monday, February 21, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Barton Street East and Woodward Avenue, then detour:

westward along Barton East;
northward along Parkdale Avenue North; and then
eastward along Rennie Street to Woodward Avenue,
resuming their regular route northward along Woodward.

Inbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Woodward Avenue at Vansitmart Avenue, Walmer Road and Rennie Street.

Instead, buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Barton Street East west of Woodward Avenue and
  • on Rennie Street at Woodward Avenue.

Outbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Woodward Avenue south of Rennie Street, across from Walmer Road and at Barton Street East.

Instead, buses drop off and pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Woodward Avenue south of Rennie Street.

You can see a map of the detour here. (.pdf)

Inbound buses operate toward downtown.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown.
