Looking inside Lakeshore Garage: TTC tour, March 26



On Saturday, February 26 at 10 a.m., TTC staff are offering visitors a rare opportunity to look inside the Lakeshore Garage. The TTC’s interurban branch, Gray Coach Lines, opened the garage in 1980, as its main maintenance facility. Today, most Wheel-Trans buses and community buses serving the 400 Lawrence Manor, 402 Parkdale, 403 South Don Mills, 404 East York and 405 Etobicoke routes operate from the Lakeshore Garage.

You need to register in advance to take the tour, but you must pay cash at the door. Space is limited to just 20 people, so you should arrive early. Meet the guide at meet at the Foreperson’s office (Door #16) to the garage on Commissioners Street, east of Leslie Street. You must bring a valid photo ID card.

Safety requirements: Canadian Standards Association-approved safety shoes, no shorts, no pets.

Access: stairs only

To get there, take a southbound 83 Jones bus from Donlands Station to the end of the line, beside Lakeshore Garage.

The TTC has scheduled more tours of Lakeshore Garage later this year. You can also join tours of other TTC facilities.


Register before the tour

You must register before the tour by e-mailing: publictours@ttc.ca. Staff accept registrations on a “first-come, first-serve” basis, but they will confirm your registration within five business days. When you register, please include the name, date of birth, address and telephone number for everyone that you’re registering.

Pay cash only on the day of the tour

You can only join the tour, after registering, by paying cash. (No credit or debit cards.) The cost is $15 for each person 13 years or older and $5 for each person 12 years or younger.

Bring photo ID cards on the day of the tour

The TTC requires everyone to show a valid photo identification card on the day of the tour. They’ll accept:

  • valid driver’s licenses;
  • passports;
  • provincial health cards with photo;
  • permanent resident cards;
  • citizenship cards;
  • aboriginal identification cards; or
  • age of majority cards.

The TTC has scheduled two more tours of Lakeshore Garage this year:

  • Saturday, July 9, 10 a.m.
  • Saturday, November 12, 10 a.m.
Tours of other facilities

Throughout the year, the TTC has scheduled tours of other TTC facilities, including Lower Bay Station, Greenwood Shop, Harvey Shop, McCowan Carhouse, the TTC’s Operations Training Centre and Russell Carhouse.
