Name the GO Stations in Barrie

Updated — March 11, 3:31 p.m.

What do you think are good names for two GO stations in Barrie?

GO Transit plans to extend service closer to downtown Barrie this fall, when trains start operating to a new station near Lakeshore Drive and Tiffin Street — almost on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay (Lake Simcoe).

The City of Barrie is looking for residents and business owners to suggest names for the new station and the current Barrie South GO Station.

  • GO currently refers to the new station as “Barrie Waterfront GO Station”, but not so long ago, it also described it as “Allandale GO Station”. The new GO station is beside the historic Allandale Station, which the City is currently restoring, and also lies in the former village of Allandale. Recently, community groups appeared before Barrie City Council to request the City to push GO to again name the new station “Allandale GO Station.”
  • GO trains operating along the 65 Barrie line currently start and end their trips at Barrie South GO Station, in the south end of the city, near the former hamlet of St. Paul’s.

What do you think are good names?

You can submit the names that you think would suit the stations here before Thursday, March 31. Only one name should include the word “Barrie”.

Barrie City Council will review your suggestions and decide which names it prefers for the two stations.
