Newmarket event affects transit services, March 19



The Town of Newmarket is closing:

  • Main Street between Timothy and Newmarket Streets

on Saturday, March 19 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. to accommodate the seventh annual Newmarket Friendly Neighbourhood Street Hockey Challenge, supporting the Poverty Action for Change Coalition of York Region.

York Region Transit is detouring buses operating along the 54 Bayview route while the street is closed.

From 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street South and Queen Street, then detour:

eastward along Queen; and then
southward along Prospect Street to Water Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Prospect.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Street South at Botsford Street and
  • on Water Street across from Doug Duncan Drive.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Prospect Street and Gorham Street, then detour:

northward along Prospect; and then
westward along Queen Street to Main Street South,
resuming their regular route northward along Main South.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Water Street at Doug Duncan Drive and
  • on Main Street South at Botsford and Queen Streets.
