HSR detours buses at McMaster University Medical Centre,
March 30 to April 5



Hamilton Health Sciences is reorganizing emergency services at the McMaster University Medical Centre. Starting Monday, April 4, the emergency unit will only treat patients younger than 17 years of age. In the meantime, starting Wednesday, March 30, the hospital starts relocating furniture, equipment — and patients — to other hospitals in Hamilton. The main entrance to the hospital off is off-limits to most vehicles, including Hamilton Street Railway buses.

While the main entrance is closed, the HSR is detouring buses operating along the 1A King and 10A B-Line express routes.


10A B-Line express

From Wednesday, March 30 until Tuesday, April 5, eastbound buses start their trips on Leland Street south of Main Street West, then proceed:

eastward along Main West to University Avenue,
resuming their regular route eastward along Main.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stop at the entrance to the McMaster University Medical Centre.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Main Street West at Emerson Avenue.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street West and Emerson Avenue, then detour:

southward along Emerson;
westward along Sussex Street; and then
northward along Leland Street to Main Street West,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses skip their regular stop at the entrance to the McMaster University Medical Centre.

Instead, westbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Main Street West across from Bowman Street;
  • on Emerson Avenue south of Main Street West and at Sussex Street.

Regular service to the hospital entrance resumes on Wednesday, April 6.

1A King

From Wednesday, March 30 until Tuesday, April 5, eastbound buses start their trips on Leland Street south of Main Street West, then proceed:

eastward along Main West; and then
northward along Forsythe Avenue South to University Avenue,
resuming their regular route **northward
along University.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stop at the entrance to the McMaster University Medical Centre.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on University Avenue north of Forsythe Avenue South.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to University Avenue and Forsythe Avenue South, then detour:

southward along Forsythe South and Emerson Avenue;
westward along Sussex Street; and then
northward along Leland Street to Main Street West,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses skip their regular stop at the entrance to the McMaster University Medical Centre.

Instead, westbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on University Avenue at Forsythe Avenue South;
  • on Emerson Avenue south of Main Street West and at Sussex Street.

Regular service to the hospital entrance resumes on Wednesday, April 6.
