Special events affect local transit services in Guelph and Markham this Sunday, April 17.


The events affect these routes:

The events affecting transit services are: the Billy Taylor Memorial Run; and the MSH Legacy 5K Walk / Run.


Guelph


Billy Taylor Memorial Run

The University of Guelph is closing parts of its campus, including East Ring Road, South Ring Road and the University Centre on Sunday morning to accommodate the annual run.

GO Transit and Guelph Transit are detouring buses during the event.

GO Transit
31 Guelph / Georgetown / Brampton - Union

(GO has not confirmed this detour. This post describes how GO detoured buses during previous events that prevented buses from entering the campus.)

Until 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, eastbound buses start their trips from a temporary stop on Stone Road West, west of Gordon Street, then proceed:

eastward along Stone Road West;
southward along Gordon Street;
westward along Kortright Road;
northward along Edinburgh Road South;
eastward along Wellington Streets West and East; and then
westward along Macdonell Street to the Downtown Guelph Bus Terminal.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Wellington Street East and Norfolk Street, then detour:

westward along Wellington West;
southward along Edinburgh Road South; and then
westward along Stone Road West to a temporary stop just west of Gordon Street,
ending their trips.

Buses skip regular stops on Gordon Street at College Avenue and at the University of Guelph.

Until 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Gordon Street and South Ring Road, then continue northward along Gordon. (Buses do not enter the university campus.)

Outbound buses reverse this routing.

(Buses don’t enter the university campus during the run and skip their regular stop at the University Centre.)

northward along Gordon to South Ring Road,

  • at the University Centre.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route to Stone Road West and Gordon Street, then detour:

southward along Gordon to Stone Road,
resuming their regular route westward along Stone Road West.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on College Avenue East at Macdonald Street,
  • on East Ring Road at the East Residence and the Mitchell Athletic Centre,
  • on South Ring Road at the South Residence (Prairie Hall),
  • at the University Centre and
  • at the Stone Road entrance to the campus.

Markham


MSH Legacy 5K Run / Walk

The Town of Markham is closing

  • Bur Oak Avenue between White’s Hill Avenue and Highway 7,
  • Church Street between Bur Oak Avenue and Country Glen Drive,

and other streets in the Cornell area to accommodate the annual event supporting the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation on Sunday.

York Region Transit is detouring bus service during the event.

1 Highway 7

From 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, westbound buses start their trips on Church Street, just west of Ninth Line, then proceed:

eastward along Church; and then
southward along Ninth to Highway 7,
resuming their regular route westward along Highway 7.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops on Highway 7 opposite Stoney Stanton Road and at Ninth Line.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Church Street, just west of Ninth Line, ending their trips.

(Buses don’t enter the hospital area during the run.)

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Church Street at Butternut Lane, Country Glen Road and Bur Oak Avenue and
  • on Bur Oak Avenue at Highway 7.
85 Rutherford / 16th Avenue

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, westbound buses start their trips on Church Street, just west of Ninth Line, then proceed:

eastward along Church; and then
northward along Ninth to 16th Avenue,
resuming their regular route westward along 16th.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Church Street at Country Glen Road and Bur Oak Avenue,
  • on Bur Oak at Riverlands, The Meadows and Donald Sims Avenues, north of Almira Avenue, White’s Hill Avenue and north of Nuthatch Lane and
  • on 16th Avenue at Country Glen Road and Ninth Line.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Ninth Line and Church Street, then detour:

southward along Ninth;
westward along Highway 7;
northward along Wooten Way; and then
eastward along Church Street to just west of Ninth Line,
ending their trips.
