Part 1 -- Less service to colleges and universities,
starting next week



Update — Wednesday, April 20, 10:55 p.m.: The post now revises information about Grand River Transit service to and from Conestoga College’s Doon Campus and Guelph Transit Service to and from the University of Guelph.


Exams are ending and most classes for the winter term are over until the new year, so many area transit agencies — especially GO Transit — decrease services to colleges and universities for the summer.


This post appears in two parts.

This part describes how transit agencies are decreasing services to: Brock University’s Main Campus; Centennial College’s Ellesmere and Progress Campuses; Durham College’s Oshawa Campus; Conestoga College’s Doon and Waterloo Campuses; Fleming College’s Sutherland Campus; George Brown College’s Casa Loma Campus; Humber College’s Lakeshore and North Campuses; McMaster University’s Main Campus; Niagara College’s Glendale and Welland Campuses; Redeemer University College; Sheridan College’s Trafalgar Campus; Trent University’s Symons Campus; and the University of Guelph’s Main Campus.

Part 2 describes how transit agencies are decreasing services to: the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT); the University of Toronto’s Scarborough Campus; the University of Waterloo; Wilfrid Laurier University’s Waterloo Campus; and York University’s Glendon and Keele Campuses.

Brock University’s Main Campus


Niagara Falls Transit and the St. Catharines Transit Commission are decreasing service to and from the university Mondays to Fridays throughout May, June, July and August.

16 Brock - Glenridge

Starting Monday, May 2, buses operate every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, Monday-to-Friday daytimes. Buses leave the Downtown St. Catharines Terminal at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.

During the summer, the SCTC interlines buses operating along this route with buses operating along the 4 Oakdale - Pen - Brock route.

Regular service resumes and interlining ends Tuesday, September 6.

21 Confederation - Brock

Sunday, April 24 is the last day until September that the SCTC operates buses along the route Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Regular Saturday-, Sunday-and-holiday service resumes Sunday, September 4.

Starting Thursday, April 28, buses resume their regular Monday-to-Friday schedules and no longer provide later Monday-to-Friday evening trips from the Brock Tower Terminal at 11:06 p.m. and Saturday evening trips from 6:06 until 11:06 p.m.

Friday, April 29 is the last day until September that buses operate Monday-to-Friday evenings. Starting Monday, May 2, buses operate with summer schedules. Northbound buses leave the Towpath Terminal at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and every hour until 4:30 p.m. Southbound buses leave the Brock Tower Terminal at Brock University at 8:06, 9:06 and 10:06 a.m. and 2:06 p.m. and every hour until 5:06 p.m.

Regular Monday-to-Friday service, including evenings, resumes Tuesday, September 6.

4 Oakdale - Pen - Brock

Starting Monday, May 2, the SCTC interlines buses operating along the route with buses operating along the 16 Brock - Glenridge route.

Interlining ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

GO Transit and the the TTC are decreasing service to and from the college throughout May, June, July and August.

Friday, April 29 is the last day until September that GO operates buses along the route.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Buses operating along the 51 Pickering - York U route continue to carry passengers between Centennial College’s Progress Campus and York University’s Keele Campus Mondays to Fridays throughout May, June, July and August.

38 Highland Creek

Starting Monday, May 9, the TTC operates two fewer buses along the route to decrease the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays midday and during afternoon rush hours.

West of the campus, buses operate every 7½ minutes, instead of every 6 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. They operate every 8 minutes, instead of every 6 minutes during afternoon rush hours.

East of the campus, buses operate every 7½ minutes, instead of every 6 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Buses operate every 16 minutes, instead of every 8 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

116A / E Morningside local / express

Sunday, April 24 is the last day that the TTC operates any buses along the route Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Friday, May 6 is the last day that the TTC operates buses along the route late Monday-to-Friday evenings.

Starting Sunday, May 8, the TTC only operates buses along the route Mondays to Fridays before 10 p.m.

The Toronto Transit Commission and Toronto City Council approved cutting the hours of service along the route as part of the 2011 budget process.

TTC buses operating along the 95 York Mills routes continue to serve the campus — or nearby streets — seven days a week.


Centennial College Progress Campus


GO Transit and the TTC are ecreasing service to and from the college throughout May, June, July and August.


51C U of Toronto Scarborough - York U

Friday, April 29 is the last day until September that GO operates buses along the route.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Starting Monday, May 9, the TTC operates one less bus to decrease the frequency of service along the route between the campus and Scarborough Centre Station Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Buses operate every 8 minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, during morning rush hours. They operate every 8 minutes, instead of every 6 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Friday, April 1 was the last day until September that GRT operated short-turn buses between Highland Hills Mall and University Avenue East at Lincoln Road from about 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays or Monday-to-Friday evenings from about 5 until 9 p.m.

Starting Monday, April 5, buses operate along the entire route every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays after 8:30 a.m.

Decreasing the frequency along the route also affects service to and from the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.


Durham College Oshawa campus

Friday, April 15 is the last day until September that GO operates the eastbound buses that leave Scarborough Centre GO Bus Terminal at 7:10 and 9:40 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at Durham College’s Oshawa Campus and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) at 7:50 and 10:20 a.m.

Friday, April 29 is the last day until September that GO operates all other buses along the route.

Service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

52 Oshawa - York U

Sunday, April 17 is the last day until September that GO operates buses along the route Sundays and holiday Mondays.

Thursday, April 21 is the last day this year that GO operates the eastbound buses that leave the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 8:15 and 9:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at Durham College / UOIT 9:14 and 10:10 a.m. and at the Downtown Oshawa Terminal at 9:30 and 10:15 a.m.)

GO is operating all other buses that it has scheduled along the route Mondays to Fridays throughout May, June, July and August.

Regular Sunday-or-holiday Monday service resumes Labour Day, Monday, September 5.

Regular Monday-to-Friday services resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Sunday, May 1 is the last day that the TTC operates any buses along the route late Sunday-and-holiday evenings.

Starting Sunday, May 8, the TTC only operates buses along the route seven days all day Mondays to Saturdays and Sundays and holidays only before 10 p.m.

The Toronto Transit Commission and Toronto City Council approved cutting the hours of service along the route as part of the 2011 budget process.

Saturday, May 7 is the last day that the TTC operates any buses along the route late evenings.

Starting Sunday, May 8, the TTC only operates buses along the route seven days a week before 10 p.m.

Humber College Lakeshore Campus

Buses operate every 6 minutes, instead of every 4 minutes, during morning rush hours. They operate every 8 minutes, instead of every 6 minutes, from about 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. They operate every 6 minutes, instead of every 4½ minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.


Humber College North Campus

Friday, May 6 is the last day until September that the TTC operates buses along the 191A branch between the campus and Kipling Station. The southbound buses that start their trips at Humber College at 9:26, 9:46, 10:06 and 10:26 a.m. no longer operate. The northbound buses that leave Kipling Station at 8:50, 9:10, 9:30, 9:50, 10:10 and 10:30 a.m., ending their trips at Humber no longer operate.

Starting Monday, May 9, the TTC also operates one less bus along the main route to decrease the frequency of service, Mondays to Fridays from about 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Buses operate every 12 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, from about 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. They operate every 11 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, from about 2 until 3 p.m. They operate 6½ minutes, instead of every 6 minutes 15 seconds, during afternoon rush hours.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

96E Wilson express

Starting Monday, May 9, the TTC operates one less bus along the route to decrease the frequency of service Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Buses operate every 14 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes, during both morning and afternoon rush hours.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.


McMaster University’s Main Campus


Both GO Transit and the Hamilton Street Railway are decreasing service to and from the university during the holidays.

Easter, Sunday, April 24 is the last day until September that GO operates buses along the routes Sundays or holiday Mondays.

GO is operating all other buses along the routes Mondays to Fridays through May, June, July and August.

47A McMaster - Bramalea

Tuesday, April 26 is the last day until September that GO operates eastbound buses along the route.

It’s also the last day until September that GO operates most westbound buses along the route. GO is only operating the buses that leave Bramalea GO Station at 6:45 and 7:45 a.m. Mondays to Fridays through May, June, July and August. It’s canceling all other westbound buses until September.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Buses operating along the 47 Hamilton - York U route continue to carry passengers between the McMaster University GO Bus Terminal and Bramalea GO Station Mondays to Fridays through the summer.

47E McMaster - Oakville

Friday, April 1 was the last day until September that GO operated any buses along the routes.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Buses operating along the 47 Hamilton - York U also carry passengers between the McMaster University GO Bus Terminal and the Oakville “Park ‘n’ Ride” carpool lot.

47B McMaster - Square One express

Tuesday, April 26 is the last day until September that GO operates the westbound bus that leaves the Square One GO Bus Terminal at 10:37 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives in the McMaster University GO Bus Terminal at 10:50 a.m.) GO continues to operate the westbound bus that leaves Square One at 7:37 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives in “Mac” at 8:20 a.m.)

GO has not operated any other buses along the route since Friday, April 9.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Buses operating along the 47 Hamilton - York U route continue to carry passengers between the McMaster University and Square One GO Bus Terminals Mondays to Fridays through the summer.

Saturday, April 30 is the last day until September that the HSR operates buses along the route.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

HSR Buses continue to operate along the 5 Delaware, 5B Main West, 5C West Hamilton and 52 Dundas routes to and from the campus seven days a week. Buses continue to operate along the 1A King route to and from the campus Mondays to Fridays before 7 p.m.


Niagara College Glendale Campus


Both Niagara Falls Transit and the St. Catharines Transit Commission are ending service to and from the college until September.

Thursday, April 22 is the last day until September that GO operates the eastbound bus that that leaves Oakville GO Station at 7:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus leaves Sheridan College Terminal at 7:26 p.m. and arrive at the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 8:25 p.m.)

It’s also the last day this year that GO operates the westbound buses that leave York at 7:45, 8:45, 9:45 and 10:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses leave Sheridan at 8:41, 9:41, 10:41 and 11:37 p.m. and arrive in Oakville GO Station bus terminal at 8:50, 9:50, 10:50 and 11:45 p.m.)

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

GO is operating all other buses that it has scheduled along the route Mondays to Fridays throughout May, June, July and August.

46A Sheridan College - Square One

Tuesday, April 26 is the last day until September that GO operates the westbound us that leaves the Square One GO Bus Terminal at 7:22 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus ends its trip in the Sheridan College Bus Terminal at 7:41 a.m.)

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Buses operating along the 46 Oakville - York U route continue to carry passengers between the Sheridan College’s Trafalgar Campus and the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus Mondays to Fridays throughout May, June, July and August.


Trent University Symons Campus

Tuesday, April 26 is the last day until September that buses operate along the route.

Trent West Bank express

Tuesday, April 26 is the last day that Peterborough Transit operates extra buses operate along the route for exams.

Starting Wednesday, April 27, buses start operating with summer schedules.

Southbound buses leave the Sonja Bata Library at 8:10 and 8:50 a.m. and 12:10, 12:50, 4:30, 5:10, 9:10, 9:50 and 11:15 p.m. seven days a week.

Northbound buses leave the Downtown Peterborough Terminal at 7:50, 8:30 and 11:50 a.m. and 12:30, 4:10, 4:50, 8:50 and 9:30 p.m. seven days a week.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Peterborough Transit buses operating along the 1 George North route continue to serve the campus seven days a week (except for statutory holidays) throughout May, June, July and August.


University of Guelph


Both GO Transit and Guelph Transit are decreasing service to and from the university during the holidays.

Friday, April 1, was the last day until September that GO operates the eastbound buses that left the University Centre Terminal on the University of Guelph campus at 1:40 and 4:10 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrived in Cooksville GO Station bus terminal at 2:40 and 5:10 p.m.)

Easter, Sunday, April 24 is the last day until September that GO operates buses along the route Sundays or holiday Mondays.

Regular Sunday-or-holiday Monday service resumes Labour Day, Monday, September 5.

Regular Monday-to-Friday service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

Sunday, April 17 is the last day until September that GO operates buses along the route Sundays or holiday Mondays.

Transit agencies often interline buses operating along two or more routes that share a common terminal to save resources — vehicles and drivers. For example, a southbound bus operating along the St. Catharines Transit Commission’s 4 Oakdale - Pen - Brock route arrives at the Brock Tower Terminal, then continues northward along the 16 Brock - Glenridge route. A southbound bus operating along the 16 Brock - Glenridge route arrives at Brock, then continues along the 4 Oakdale - Pen - Brock route.
