Learn more about bus rapid transit in Durham Region:
Public meetings, April 30, May 3

The Region of Durham has started an environmental assessment process to evaluate options for introducing bus rapid transit along Kingston Road — Durham Regional Highway 2 — through Pickering and Ajax.

The Province has committed funding to establish the first stage of bus rapid transit (BRT) service through the Highway 2 corridor. On Saturday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 3, the region will host information centres, where you can drop by to learn more about plans to enhance transit service along in three “transit priority opportunity areas” in Ajax and Pickering.

Transit priority areas along Kingston Road / Highway 2 include:

  • from east of Rosebank Road to east of Fairport Road;
  • from east of Liverpool Road to east of Brock Road; and
  • from east of Westney Road to east of Salem Road.

The Region is looking at several options to improve the roadway to set up bus rapid transit, such as adding:

  • curbside bus-only lanes;
  • high-occupancy vehicle (or “HOV”) lanes;
  • mixed traffic lanes; or
  • a median transit way.
