SCTC buses detour during Welland Avenue construction,
starting May 2



Update — Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 9:39 a.m.: Construction recently ended and buses operating along the 1 Martindale and 101 Martindale - Lakeshore routes have resumed regular service.


Update — Tuesday, July 12, 5:45 p.m.: Construction begins on another part of Welland Avenue, affecting service along the 8 Grantham - Lakeshore and 108 Grantham - Port Weller routes.


The Region of Niagara is starting an extensive project to rebuild

  • Welland Avenue (Regional Road 77).

The St. Catharines Transit Commission is detouring buses operating along the 1 Martindale and 101 Martindale - Lakeshore routes while work proceeds.

Starting Monday, May 2, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Fourth Avenue Louth and Highway 406, then detour:

southeastward along Highway 406;
westward along Westchester Crescent;
northward along Geneva Street;
westward along The Parkway;
northward along Carlisle Street; and then
eastward into the Downtown Terminal,
ending their trips.

Inbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Welland Avenue at Queen Street and
  • on James Street south of Lake Street, at Duke, Richmond and Market Streets.

Outbound buses start their trips at the Downtown Terminal, then proceed:

southward along Carlisle Street;
westward along The Parkway; and then
northwestward along Highway 406 to Fourth Avenue Louth,
resuming their regular route westward along Fourth.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Carlisle Street north of King Street,
  • on James Street across from Duke Street and at Lake Street,
  • on Welland Avenue at Thomas Street and
  • on Fourth Avenue Louth west of Ontario Street.

Buses continue to skip stops along Fourth Avenue Louth between Highway 406 and Martindale Road, due to ongoing construction along Fourth.


Inbound buses operate toward downtown.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown.
