You can get on Queens Quay streetcars for free*
every weekend, starting May 8 (* Well, sort of)

You can get on Queens Quay streetcars for free every summer weekend starting Sunday, May 8 — you’ll just have to pay when you get off.

On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from today until Labour Day, Monday, September 5, TTC operators are not collecting fares at Harbourfront to speed boarding at busy stops at busy times.

Passengers waiting for eastbound streetcars along Queens Quay West at Bathurst Street, Dan Leckie Way, Lower Spadina Avenue, Rees Street, Lower Simcoe Street and York Street — and at the northbound platform at Queens Quay Station — may board streetcars by either the front or centre door. They do not have to pay a cash or ticket fare and the operators are not giving them paper transfers.

Passengers who board at these stops pay, instead, when they leave the underground streetcar loop at Union Station.

Passengers who board streetcars operating along the 509 Harbourfront and 510 Spadina routes at any other stop have to pay their fares when they enter the cars and the operators provide paper transfers for passengers to prove that they paid their fares when they exit at Union Station.

Mondays to Fridays during the summer, and seven days a week after Labour Day, passengers always have to pay their fares when they board at all stops along the two routes.
