Less parking at Markham GO Station during construction

Update — Wednesday, August 4, 3:11 p.m.: GO reopened the parking lot today.

Update — Thursday, June 9, 5:33 p.m.: GO is opening a temporary parking lot at 16 Water Street on Monday, June 13 for commuters to use during the construction period.

Update — Sunday, June 5, 2:02 p.m.: GO starts the second phase of the project on Monday, June 6, further reducing the number of parking spaces.

GO Transit contractors recently started a project to upgrade the parking lots at Markham GO Station. The project includes:

  • replacing the asphalt and curbs;
  • upgrading the security-camera and lighting systems; and
  • installing new fencing and landscaping.

During the first phase of this project, GO is closing the east parking lot until early July. GO has unsuccessfully tried to acquire more parking spots near the station. As a result, it’s advising passengers to park at Unionville or Milliken GO Stations until the east lot reopens.

Last week, construction crews also started to replace the curbs along the station platform, making some minor asphalt repairs and repainting lines. They’re mostly working Mondays to Fridays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m, when GO trains don’t operate through the station.
