MiWay detours buses during sewer construction
near Square One and City Centre Terminal, May 9 to June 7

The Region of Peel resumed a project to upgrade the sewers on Burnhamthorpe Road West near Square One and the Mississauga City Centre Terminal, starting yesterday, Monday, May 9.

Work proceeds in two phases. During the first phase, the Region is restricting westbound traffic lanes along Burnhamthorpe West from Monday, May 9 until Monday, May 16. During the second phase, from Tuesday, May 17 until Friday, May 27, the Region and the City of Mississauga are closing the entire intersection of

  • Burnhamthorpe Road West and Kariya Gate / Kariya Drive

to all traffic.

Phase one only affects westbound MiWay buses operating along the 26 Burnhamthorpe route. Phase two affects all buses operating along the 3 Bloor, 8 Cawthra and 26 Burnhamthorpe routes.


3 Bloor

From Tuesday, May 17 until Tuesday, June 7, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to City Centre Drive and Robert Speck Parkway West, then detour:

eastward along Robert Speck West; and then
southward along Hurontario Street to Elm Drive,
resuming their regular route eastward along Elm Drive East.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on City Centre Drive across from and south of, Robert Speck Parkway West and across from and east of Kariya Gate;
  • on Kariya Drive north of Enfield Place and south of Enfield Place and
  • on Elm Drive West east of Kariya Drive and at Hurontario Street.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Hurontario Street at Burnhamthorpe Road West and south of Matthews Gate.

Westbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Elm Drive West at Kariya Drive,
  • on Kariya Drive north of Enfield Place and at Burnhamthorpe Road West,
  • on Kariya Gate south of City Centre Drive and
  • on City Centre Drive south of Robert Speck Parkway West.

Instead, westbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Hurontario Street across from Matthews Gate and at Burnhamthorpe Road East and
  • on Robert Speck Parkway West west of Hurontario Street.
26 Burnhamthorpe

Mondays to Fridays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday, May 9 until Monday, May 16, eastbound buses operate along their regular route and with regular service.

Mondays to Fridays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday, May 9 until Monday, May 16, westbound passengers should expect delays.

If the work requires MiWay to detour buses, they’ll operate along their regular route to Burnhamthorpe Road East and Hurontario Street, then detour:

northward along Hurontario; and then
westward along Robert Speck Parkway West to City Centre Drive,
resuming their regular route northward along City Centre.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Kariya Gate south of City Centre Drive and
  • on City Centre Drive south of Robert Speck Parkway West.

Instead, westbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Robert Speck Parkway West west of Hurontario Street.

All buses detour all day Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 18.

26 Burnhamthorpe

From Tuesday, May 17 until Tuesday, June 7, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to City Centre Drive and Robert Speck Parkway West, then detour:

westward along Robert Speck Parkway West; and then
southward along Hurontario Street to Burnhamthorpe Road,
resuming their regular route eastward along Burnhamthorpe Road East.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on City Centre Drive across from and south of, Robert Speck Parkway West and across from and east of Kariya Gate and
  • on Burnhamthorpe Road West at Sussex Gate.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Burnhamthorpe Road East and Hurontario Street, then detour:

northward along Hurontario; and then
westward along Robert Speck Parkway West to City Centre Drive,
resuming their regular route northward along City Centre.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Kariya Gate south of City Centre Drive and
  • on City Centre Drive south of Robert Speck Parkway West.

Instead, westbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Robert Speck Parkway West west of Hurontario Street.
8 Cawthra

From Tuesday, May 17 until Tuesday, June 7, southbound buses operate along their regular route to City Centre Drive and Kariya Gate, then detour:

east- and northward along City Centre;
eastward along Robert Speck Parkway West; and then
southward along Hurontario Street to Elm Drive,
resuming their regular route eastward along Elm Drive East.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Kariya Drive north of Enfield Place and south of Enfield Place and
  • on Elm Drive West east of Kariya Drive and at Hurontario Street.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Hurontario Street at Burnhamthorpe Road West and south of Matthews Gate.

Westbound buses reverse the detour routing.

  • on Elm Drive West at Kariya Drive,
  • on Kariya Drive north of Enfield Place and at Burnhamthorpe Road West and
  • on Kariya Gate south of City Centre Drive.

  • on Hurontario Street across from Matthews Gate and at Burnhamthorpe Road East,
  • on Robert Speck Parkway West west of Hurontario Street and
  • on City Centre Drive across from and south of, Robert Speck Parkway West and across from, and east of, Kariya Gate.

Last year, the Region and City closed Kariya Gate for an earlier phase of the sewer construction project — and MiWay detoured buses — from Thursday, September 9 until early October.
