Weekend events affect transit services, May 14, 15



Updated — May 15, 10:49 a.m.: Steve Munro points out on his blog that not only is the TTC not detouring buses off the regular 33 Forest Hill route, it’s also not running any buses along the route. Saturday, May 7 was the last day that the TTC operated buses along the route at any time Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Ooops! (We should have caught that one ourselves…)


Two major marathons — the Mississauga Marathon in the City Centre, Erin Mills, Erindale, Clarkson, Lorne Park and Port Credit communities of Mississauga and the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon in central and downtown Toronto — block streets and disrupt transit services this weekend.


The events affect these routes:

The City of Kawartha Lakes is closing

  • Victoria Avenue North between Peel Street and Kent Street West

Saturday mornings from May 1 until October 29 to accommodate the weekly market.

Lindsay Transit is detouring buses to accommodate the event.

Green route

From 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Victoria Avenue North and Peel Street, then detour:

eastward along Peel Street;
southward along Cambridge Street North; and then
westward along Kent Street West to Victoria Avenue North,
resuming their regular route westward along Kent West.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route.


Mississauga


Mississauga Marathon

The Region of Peel and the City of Mississauga are closing many streets throughout the city this weekend to accommodate the 2011 race.

Although the race takes place on Sunday, the Region and City are closing some streets on Saturday, too, to help organizers set up the course.

On Saturday, the Region and City are closing:

  • Lakeshore Road West at various places between Meadow Wood and Mississauga Roads;
  • Lakeshore Road East east of Stavebank Road.

from about 6 until 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the Region and City are closing:

  • City Centre Drive between Robert Speck Parkway West and Duke of York Boulevard,
  • Duke of York Boulevard between City Centre Drive and Burnhamthorpe Road West;
  • Burnhamthorpe Road West between Duke of York Boulevard and Mississauga Road;
  • Mississauga Road between Burnhamthorpe and Lakeshore Roads West;
  • Indian Road between Mississauga and Lorne Park Roads;
  • Lorne Park Road between Indian Road and Truscott Drive;
  • Truscott Drive between Lorne Park and Southdown Roads;
  • Southdown Road between Truscott Drive and Orr Road;
  • Orr Road between Southdown and Meadow Wood Roads;
  • Meadow Wood Road between Orr Road and Lakeshore Road West;
  • Lakeshore Road West at various places between Meadow Wood and Mississauga Roads;
  • Lakeshore Road East east of Stavebank Road.

(The University of Toronto is also closing Outer Circle Road through its Mississauga Campus.)

The Marathon events start at 7:30 a.m. As the race participants clear the route, Peel Regional Police officers may reopen the streets to traffic. Most streets re-open by 2:30 p.m.

Participants raise funds to help support several charities in Mississauga and Peel Region.

GO Transit and MiWay are detouring buses before and during the event.

21 Milton / Mississauga - Union

From about 7 a.m. until about 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, east- and southbound buses operate along their regular route to Rathburn Road West and Duke of York Boulevard, then detour:

northward along Duke of York;
eastward along City View Drive;
southward along Station Gate Road, through GO’s Square One Terminal; then
eastward along Rathburn Roads West and East;
southward along Shipp Drive; and then
westward along Robert Speck Parkway West to Hurontario Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Hurontario.

South- and eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Duke of York Boulevard across from Square One Drive and at Princess Royal Drive,
  • on City Centre Drive east of Duke of York Boulevard and northeast of Kariya Gate and - on Robert Speck Parkway West at Hurontario Street.

North- and westbound buses reverse the detour routing.

As the race participants clear City Centre Drive, buses may resume their regular route earlier than 2 p.m.

From 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 15 until Marathon participants clear the streets, Mississauga Transit operates buses along two sections of the route.

Some eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Dundas Street West and Erin Mills Parkway, then detour:

northward along Erin Mills Parkway; and then
west- and northward along South Millway West; and then
northward into South Common Terminal,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses operating on the western section start their trips at South Common Mall, then proceed:

eastward along Burnhamthorpe Road;
southward along Erin Mills;
westward along The Collegeway;
south- and eastward along South Millway West; and then
southward along Erin Mills to Dundas Street West,
resuming their regular route westward along Dundas West.

Some eastbound buses start their trips at The Credit Woodlands and Dundas Street West, then proceed:

along the regular route to Islington Station.

Westbound buses operating on the eastern section start their trips at Islington Station and proceed along their regular route to Dundas Street West and Erindale Station Road; then proceed:

westward along Robert Speck Parkway East to Hurontario Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Hurontario.

They then operate along their regular route to Hurontario Street and Park Street West, then detour:

westward along Park West to Ann Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Ann.
