GRT revises services, June 27



As summer arrives, fewer people travel to and from high schools, colleges and universities and many people take time off work to get out of town.

Grand River Transit is revising its services to reflect the changes in travel patterns for the summer, starting Monday, June 27. Most of these service changes end on Tuesday, September 6.

GRT is also starting to fulfill the goals of Waterloo Region’s long-term transit strategy, by increasing service along the iXpress bus rapid transit route.


The changes affect these routes: iXpress; 1 Stanley Park; 2 Forest Hill; 3 Ottawa South; 7B Mainline via Weber; 7C Mainline / Conestoga Mall; 7D Mainline via University; 7E Mainline via Columbia; 7 Mainline late-night loop; 8 University via Weber; 8 University via Westmount; 9 Lakeshore; 9 Lakeshore late-night loop; 10 Conestoga College - Fairview Park; 11 Country Hills; 12 Conestoga Mall - Fairview Park; 13 Laurelwood; 16 Conestoga College - Forest Glen; 18 Guelph Street; 20 Victoria Hills; 25 Queen South; 51 Hespeler Road; 61 Conestoga College - Cambridge Centre; Bluevale high school specials, Cameron Heights high school specials, Eastwood high school specials, Forest Heights high school specials, Galt Collegiate high school specials, Grand River high school specials, Huron Heights high school specials, Jacob Hespler high school specials, Kitchener Collegiate high school specials, Macdonald high school specials, Preston high school specials, Resurrection high school specials, St. Benedict high school specials, St. David high school specials, St. Mary’s high school specials, Waterloo Collegiate high school specials.


Specifically, GRT is: canceling seasonal service; increasing service along current routes; decreasing service along current routes; increasing the frequency of service along a current route; decreasing the frequency of service along current routes; revising service to colleges and universities; canceling extra service to high schools; adjusting the schedules of current routes; and making other changes to a current route.


Cancelling seasonal service


9 Lakeshore late-night loop

Today, Sunday, June 26 is the last day until September that GRT operates buses along the late-night loop early Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Regular service resumes Friday, September 9.

7 Mainline late-night loop

Today, Sunday, June 26 is the last day until September that GRT operates buses along the late-night loop early Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Increasing service along current routes


21 Elmira

Starting Thursday, June 30, GRT operates extra trips between Conestoga Mall and St. Jacobs Farmers Market Thursday mornings only.

iXpress

GRT starts fulfilling the goals of Waterloo Region’s long-term transit strategy by offering passengers more service along the route. (GRT is offering even more service along other routes, starting Tuesday, September 6.)

Starting Saturday, July 2, buses operate every 15 minutes between Fairview Park Mall and Ainslie Street Terminal Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. (Buses only operate every 15 minutes between Conestoga and Fairview Park Malls Saturdays - and every 30 minutes south of Fairview.)

Also starting Saturday, July, YRT operates service along the entire route Saturdays from about 6 until 10 p.m. Buses operate every 30 minutes.

GRT is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

61 Conestoga College - Cambridge Centre

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operated buses along the route from about 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

Starting Monday, June 27, buses operate every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours only.

Regular Monday-to-Friday midday service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

17 Heritage Park

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operated the southbound bus that leaves Lackner Boulevard and Victoria Street North at 7:24 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives at the Fairview Park Terminal at 7:51 a.m.)

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

7C Mainline Conestoga Mall

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operated the inbound bus that leaves Waterloo Square at 2:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives at the Charles Street Terminal at 2:31 p.m.)

It was also the last day until September that GRT operated the inbound buses that leave Conestoga Mall at 2:38, 2:55, 3:38, 4:08, 4:38 and 5:08 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at the Charles Street Terminal at 3:05, 3:22, 4:05, 4:35, 5:05 and 5:35 p.m.)

Friday, June 24 was also the last day until September that GRT operates the outbound buses that leave the Charles Street Terminal at 8:07 a.m. and 2:25, 3:08, 3:38, 4:08, 4:38 and 5:08 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive in the Conestoga Mall Terminal at 8:30 a.m. and 2:48, 3:34, 4:04, 4:34, 5:04 and 5:34 p.m.)

Monday, June 27 is the last day until September that GRT operates the outbound bus that leaves the Charles Street Terminal at 12:15 a.m. Sundays, Mondays and the day after statutory holidays. (The bus arrives in the Conestoga Mall Terminal at 12:37 a.m.).

7E Mainline via Columbia

(The buses arrive in the Charles Street Terminal at 3:16, 3:43, 4:13, 4:43, 5:13, 5:43 and 6:13 p.m.)

GRT is also canceling the late-night loop service along the route for the summer and making other changes to the route.

7D Mainline via University

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operates the inbound bus that leaves the University of Waterloo Ring Road beside the William G. Davis Computer Sciences Centre at 2:40 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives in the Charles Street Terminal at 3:03 p.m.)

It was also the last day until September that GRT operated the outbound buses that leave the Charles Street Terminal at 8 and 8:30 a.m. and 2:50, 3:20, 3:50, 4:20, 4:50 and 5:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. It was also the last day until September that GRT operates the inbound bus that leaves King Street East and Ottawa Street at 7:03 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives in the Charles Street Terminal at 7:11 a.m.)

Increasing the frequency of service along a current route


iXpress

Starting Monday, June 27, buses operate every 10 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. They operate every 15 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from 6 until 10 p.m.

Starting Saturday, July 2, buses operate every 15 minutes between Fairview Park Mall and Ainslie Street Terminal Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. (Buses only operate every 15 minutes between Conestoga and Fairview Park Malls Saturdays - and every 30 minutes south of Fairview.)

GRT is also increasing service along the route at other times of the week.

Decreasing the frequency of service along current routes


12 Conestoga Mall - Fairview Park

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses operate between University Avenue West at King Street North and University Avenue West at Fischer-Hallman Road every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, for the summer. (In fact, GRT operates buses along the entire route every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays before 10 p.m., Saturdays before 8 p.m. and Sundays and holidays from about 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.)

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that it operated the southbound buses that leave University Avenue West and King Street North at 9:15 a.m. and 2:20 and 2:58 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive in Highland Hills Terminal at 9:35 a.m. and 2:42 and 3:20 p.m.)

11 Country Hills

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses operate every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, for the summer. (In fact, GRT operates buses along the route every 30 minutes Mondays to Saturdays before 6:45 p.m.)

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operated the inbound buses that leave the Forest Glen Plaza Terminal at 6, 7, 7:30, 8, 8:30 and 9 a.m. at 3:30, 4, 4:30 and 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive in the Charles Street Terminal at 6:25, 7:25, 7:55, 8:25, 8:55 and 9:26 a.m. and 3:56, 4:26 and 5:26 p.m.)

It was also the last day until September that GRT operated the outbound buses that leave the Charles Street Terminal at 6:30, 7, 7:30 and 8 a.m. and 3, 3:30, 4, 4:30, 5 and 5:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. 2 Forest Hill

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Buses operate every 45 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes, and all buses operate along Avalon Place and Southmoor Drive after 10 a.m. for the summer. Buses continue to operate every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Inbound buses leave the Highland Hills Mall Terminal every 45 minutes from 9:20 a.m. until 2:35 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Outbound buses leave the Charles Street Terminal from 9 a.m. until 2:15 p.m.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

18 Guelph Street

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route from about 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Buses operate every 45 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes, for the summer.

Inbound buses leave Maple Avenue and Guelph Street at 9:33, 10:18, 11:03 and 11:48 a.m. and 12:33, 1:18 and 2:03 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (They arrive at the Charles Street Terminal at 9:49, 10:34 and 11:19 a.m. and 12:04, 12:49, 1:34 and 2:19 p.m.)

Outbound buses leave the Charles Street Terminal at 9:15, 10, 10:45 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:15, 1 and 1:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (They arrive at Maple Avenue and Guelph Street at 9:33, 10:18, 11:03 and 11:48 a.m. and 12:33, 1:18 and 2:03 p.m.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

51 Hespeler Road

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during the morning rush hours for the summer. Buses operate every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, from about 7 until 10 a.m. Mondays to Friday for the summer. (In fact, buses operate every 15 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, then every 30 minutes after 6:15 p.m.)

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operated the southbound buses that leave Hespeler Terminal at 6:58, 7:28, 7:58, 8:28, 8:58, 9:28 and 9:58 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses arrive at the Ainslie Street Terminal at 7:28, 7:58, 8:28, 8:58, 9:28, 9:58 and 10:28 a.m.)

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses operate every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, for the summer. (In fact, GRT operates buses along the route every 30 minutes Mondays to Saturdays before 6:30 p.m.)

Every second inbound bus operates to Lackner Boulevard and Lorraine Avenue, starting with the bus that leaves Stanley Park Mall at 6:03 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. Every second outbound bus operates to Lorraine Avenue and Lackner Boulevard, starting with the bus that leaves the Charles Street Terminal at 6:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays.

All inbound buses operate along Cambridge Avenue, Sherwood Avenue, Smithson Street, Belleview Avenue and Becker Street during rush hours. Inbound buses do not serve the stop on Krug Street west of Cambridge Avenue during rush hours. All outbound buses operate along Becker Street, Belleview Avenue, Smithson Street, Sherwood Avenue and Cambridge Avenue during rush hours.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

8 University via Weber

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT decreases the frequency of service outbound along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses operate every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, for the summer. (In fact, GRT operates buses along the route every 30 minutes Mondays to Saturdays before 10 p.m.)

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operates the buses that leave the Charles Street Terminal at 7:40, 8:08, 8:35, 9:05 and 9:35 a.m. and 3:38, 4:08, 4:38 and 5:08 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operated the buses that leave University Avenue and King Street North at 7:30, 8, 8:30, 8:55 and 9:25 a.m. and 2:30, 3, 3:30, 4, 4:30, 5 and 5:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. 20 Victoria Hills

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT increases service along the route for the summer. An extra outbound bus leaves the Charles Street Terminal at 8:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. It ends its trip at Ingleside and Hazelglen Drives at 8:26 a.m.


Revising service to colleges and universities


61 Conestoga College - Ainslie St

Friday, June 24 was the last day until September that GRT operated buses along the route from about 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

Starting Monday, June 27, buses operate every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours only.

Regular Monday-to-Friday midday service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

10 Conestoga College - Fairview Park Mall

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT adjusts the schedule of the route for the summer.

Northbound buses leaving Conestoga College’s Doon Campus from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. operate with an alternate schedule during July and August. Most buses leave the campus one to three minutes earlier or later than they do from September until June.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

16 Conestoga College - Forest Glen

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT adjusts the schedule of the route for the summer.

Buses leave Conestoga College’s Doon Campus at 9:20 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 2:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

12 Conestoga Mall - Fairview Park

10 Conestoga College - Fairview Park Mall

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT adjusts the schedule of the route for the summer.

Northbound buses leaving Conestoga College’s Doon Campus from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. operate with an alternate schedule during July and August. Most buses leave the campus one to three minutes earlier or later than they do from September until June.

16 Conestoga College - Forest Glen

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT adjusts the schedule of the route for the summer.

Buses leave Conestoga College’s Doon Campus at 9:20 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 2:20 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

11 Country Hills

Starting Monday, June 27, GRT adjusts the schedule of the route for the summer.

The inbound bus that leaves the Forest Glen Plaza Terminal at 3:15 p.m. Mondays to Fridays continues to leave at 3:15 p.m., but serves all stops along the route one to five minutes earlier than formerly . The bus arrives in the Charles Street Terminal at 3:41 p.m., instead of 3:46 p.m.

The outbound bus that leaves the Charles Street Terminal at 7:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes later at 7:20 a.m. The bus serves all stops along the route five minutes later than , arriving in the Forest Glen Plaza Terminal at 7:42 a.m.

The outbound bus that leaves Charles Street at 3:50 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves five minutes earlier at 3:45 p.m. The bus serves all stops along the route five minutes earlier than formerly, arriving in Forest Glen at 4:08 p.m.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

GRT is also decreasing the frequency of service along the route.

51 Hespeler Road

Starting Monday, June 27, the southbound bus that leaves Hespeler Terminal at 9:58 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, instead starts its trip at the Cambridge Centre at 10:15 a.m. for the summer.

The northbound bus that leaves the Ainslie Street Terminal at 10 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, instead leaves the Cambridge Centre at 10:15 a.m. for the summer.

Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 6.

GRT is also decreasing the frequency of service along the route.


Making other changes to a current route

7 Mainline

GRT is improving service along the entire route by removing several bus stops.

Starting Monday, June 27, buses no longer drop off and pick up passengers at these **southbound stops:

  • Stop #2537 on King Street South at John Street West;
  • Stop #2539 on King Street West at Mount Hope Street;
  • Stop #2541 on King Street West at Green Street;
  • Stop #2607 on Dixon Street at Rockaway Drive;
  • Stop #3577 on Kingsway Drive at Second Avenue; and
  • Stop #2579 on Connaught Street at Eighth Avenue.

They’ll also skip these northbound stops:

  • Stop #2598 on Wilson Avenue at Ninth Avenue;
  • Stop #2588 on Connaught Street at Eighth Avenue;
  • Stop #2607 on Dixon Street across from Rockway Drive;
  • Stop #1879 on King Street East at Jackson Avenue;
  • Stop #3577 on King Street East at Madison Avenue North;
  • Stop #1899 on King Street West across from Green Street;
  • Stop #1901 on King Street West across from Mount Hope Street; and
  • Stop #1903 on King Street South at John Street East.

Inbound buses operate toward downtown Kitchener.
