HSR revises services, June 26

On Sunday, June 26, the Hamilton Street Railway starts decreasing service along many routes as fewer passengers travel by transit during the summer.

On the same day, it also resumes service along its free summertime shuttle service between downtown Hamilton and the waterfront.

Residents and visitors can ride the shuttles to visit some of the attractions along Hamilton’s waterfront, including the HMCS Haida National Historic Site. Buses operate every 30 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., daily.

The changes affect these routes: 2 Barton; 3 Cannon; 6 Aberdeen; 7 Locke; 8 York; 21 Upper Kenilworth; 22 Upper Ottawa; 23 Upper Gage; 24 Upper Sherman; 27 Upper James; 33 Sanatorium; 34 Upper Paradise; 35 College; 41 Mohawk; 44 Rymal; 52A Dundas local; 99 Waterfront shuttle.

Specifically, the HSR is: resuming service along a seasonal route for the summer; increasing service along a current route; decreasing service along current routes for the summer; adjusting the schedule of a current route; and making other changes to a current route.

Resuming service along a seasonal route for the summer

99 Waterfront shuttle

Starting Sunday, June 26, the HSR resumes its free seven-days-a-week shuttle bus service between downtown Hamilton and Hamilton Harbour. Buses operate every 30 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. until Labour Day, Monday, September 6.

Again this year, the HSR is using buses that replicate the streetcars that the HSR operated in Hamilton until 1951. They use streetcar-like bodies and the HSR has painted them the same colours as some of the streetcars that rolled through Hamilton in the past.

Inbound buses start their trips at Pier 8 and proceed:

westward along Guise Street East;
southward along James Street North; and then
westward along King Street West to Summers Lane (beside Lloyd D. Jackson Square.)

Inbound buses stop only

  • on James Street North at Guise and Strachan Streets West, Colbourne Street, Cannon Street West and across from King William Street and
  • on King Street West across from Summers Lane.

They leave Pier 8 every 30 minutes, seven days a week, from 10:22 a.m. until 8:22 p.m. One last bus leaves Pier 8 at 9 p.m.

Outbound buses start their trips at King Street West and Summers Lane and proceed:

westward along King;
northward along Bay Street North;
eastward along York Boulevard;
northward along James Street North; and then
eastward along Guise Street East to Pier 8.

Outbound buses stop only

  • on James Street North at Cannon, Barton, Strachan and Guise Streets East and at Pier 8.

They leave King Street West across from Summers Lane every 30 minutes, seven days a week, from 10:05 a.m. until 8:35 p.m.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown Hamilton.
