Two local transit agencies raised fares July 1



You’ve been paying more to ride the bus in Oakville and Waterloo Region, since Canada Day, Friday, July 1.


Oakville Transit has raised the cost of tickets and passes. Monthly adult passes increased by $7 to $95 and student passes by $6 to $64. It now costs you $1 more — $26.50 — to buy ten adult tickets. Ten student tickets also cost $1 more — the new cost is $22 — while ten seniors tickets cost 50 cents more at $18.

The cost for cash fares remains at $3.

Meanwhile, Grand River Transit also raised the cost of tickets and passes on July 1. Monthly adult passes increased by $3 to $63 and senior and student passes by $2 to $52. It now costs you 25 cents more to buy a strip of 5 adult tickets — the new price is $9.75 — while it costs you 50 cents more to buy 5 senior or student tickets — the new price is $8.25.
