GO, YRT detour buses in Newmarket during police funeral, July 5



GO Transit and York Region Transit are detouring bus service from about 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, July 5 during the full police funeral for York Regional Police Constable Garrett Styles at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, 100 Eagle Street West in Newmarket. The Town of Newmarket is closing Eagle Street West and surrounding areas to traffic during the funeral procession and ceremony.

The detours affect these GO routes: 65 Newmarket / Aurora - Union; 68 Barrie - Newmarket; and 69 Beaverton / Sutton - Barrie.

They also affect these YRT routes: Viva blue, 22A King City; 44 Bristol - London; 52 Holland Landing; 53 Woodspring - Clearmeadow; 55 / 55B Davis Drive; 56 Gorham - Eagle; 98 Yonge; and 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus.

All YRT buses operating to and from Newmarket GO Bus Terminal will serve Bathurst Street, turning eastbound onto Davis Drive West (around the road closure barrier) and into the terminal. After exiting the terminal, buses proceed north on Eagle Street West to Davis Drive West, turning westbound on Davis Drive to Bathurst Street.

YRT buses won’t drop off or pick up passengers at any stops between Eagle Street to the west and Yonge Street to the east and between Mulock Drive to the south and Kingston Road / Dawson Manor to the north; along Davis Drives West and East between Eagle Street West and George Street and along Yonge Street between the Mulock northbound vivastation and Eagle southbound vivastation.

YRT buses are serving a temporary stop at the northwest corner of Yonge Street and Mulock Drive for all passengers.

Constable Styles lost his life while on duty on June 28.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Green Lane then detour:

eastward along Mulock Drive West to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

520/521 Newmarket community bus

YRT is canceling service to and from Upper Canada Mall and the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 5. Buses continue to operate as close to the schedule along the rest of the route. Regular service resumes at 3 p.m.

Buses operating along route 520 start picking up passengers from 155 Main Street at the regular time of 9:36 a.m. and operate as route 520 until they read 194-200 Eagle Street East. pick-up location. The driver then changes the route identification sign to route 521 and the bus proceeds to Winners along the Route 521 routing. At Winners, the driver again changes the destination sign back to route 520 and operates the bus along the regular route 520 routing until 194-200 Eagle. Buses repeat this pattern until 3 p.m. when a bus leaves Upper Canada Mall on the last Route 520 trip of the day.

Buses operating along route 521 start service at 194-200 Eagle Street at the regular time of 9:15 a.m. and operate along route 521 until Winners. The driver then changes the route identification sign to route 520 and the bus proceeds to 194-200 Eagle Street along the route 520 routing. At 194-200 Eagle, the driver again changes the route identification sign destination sign to route 521 and operates the bus along the regular Route 521 routing until Winners. Buses repeat this pattern until 3 p.m. when a bus leaves Upper Canada Mall on the last route 521 trip of the day.

Viva blue

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, southbound buses start their trips at the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal, as usual, then proceed:

northward along Eagle Street West;
westward along Davis Drive West;
southward along Bathurst Street; and then
eastward along Mulock Drive West to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Mulock Drive, then detour:

westward along Mulock Drive West;
northward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Davis Drive West; and then
southward into the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal,
ending their trips.
