Public meeting on Leslie streetcar track plans tonight

Although the City of Toronto and the TTC are already working on the new Ashbridges Bay Carhouse at the southeast corner of Leslie Street and Lake Shore Boulevard East, they haven’t yet finalized the route for the streetcar tracks that allow cars to travel between the new yard and Queen Street East.

The original plan recommended building new tracks along Leslie Street to connect the Queen East tracks with the new streetcar maintenance and storage facility. Local residents object to that scheme, which would result in large numbers of streetcars rolling past their homes every morning and evening. The street also hides underground services that the City would have to relocate before the TTC can build the tracks.

Area councillor Paula Fletcher is hosting a public meeting tonight to review alternatives. The meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m., tonight, Tuesday, July 5, in Leslieville Public School, 254 Leslie Street, north of Dundas Street East. The Councillor has invited the chair of the Toronto Transit Commission, Councillor Karen Stintz and transit advocate Steve Munro to speak.
