You can use PRESTO cards on all YRT buses, starting July 18

You can start using PRESTO cards on all York Region Transit regular and Viva buses, starting Monday, July 18.

On the same day, YRT staff are distributing as many as 5,000 PRESTO cards to riders — and waiving the usual $6 fee to issue them. Staff representatives also hope to educate riders on how to use the PRESTO smart card and help them use the PRESTO website and how to register the cards.

Staff are distributing the cards from 1 until 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 19 at the Richmond Hill Centre Terminal and Wednesday, July 20 and Thursday, July 21 at Finch GO Bus Terminal. They’re distributing cards that YRT and PRESTO have already loaded with $25, including the $6 fee to issue the card and $19 to spend on fares. YRT passengers who choose to buy and register their PRESTO card on the spot only pay $19. Passengers who don’t wish to register their card may buy a PRESTO card for $25. YRT is only accepting cash when passengers buy the cards on these days.

You can also buy the cards Mondays to Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the YRT South Service Centre, 50 High Tech Road, 5th floor, in Richmond Hill.

During the next few weeks, you’ll find YRT staff at key bus terminals to help you use the cards and to answer your questions.
