Police officers issue more than 3,000 tickets
during "Take Time to Check" transit safety campaign

On Monday, August 8, the Toronto Police Service and the TTC launched a joint week-long safety campaign, “Take Time to Check.” Their goal was to raise the level of awareness of road-safety issues involving transit vehicles and activities that impede public transit movement.

During this initiative, officers issued a total of 3,366 provincial offences tickets, including

  • 1,745 to motorists who made prohibited turns interfering with transit vehicles;
  • 95 to motorists failing to yield to buses re?entering roadways; and
  • 150 to motorists passing streetcars while the doors were open.

During the program, the officers also issued tickets for other traffic offenses including 1,142 to motorists driving in high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes during prohibited times and 234 to motorists failing to clear intersections, causing gridlock.

They also handed out 4,024 tickets for municipal parking offences in TTC areas, including “No stopping, no standing and no parking in designated TTC routes”.
