Part 1 -- GO revises routes and services, September 3



In September more people travel by transit. Vacation is over, so more people ride buses and trains to and from work and students return to colleges and universities.

GO Transit is meeting the challenges of September with a whole slate of service changes, increasing service along many routes, starting Saturday, September 2.


This post appears in three parts.

This part of the post describes how GO is introducing new branches of current routes.

Specifically, GO is: introducing new branches of current routes; increasing service along current routes; decreasing service along a current route; increasing the frequency of service along current routes; resuming seasonal service; cancelling seasonal service; resuming extra services to and from colleges and universities; adjusting the schedules of current routes; and making other changes to a current route.


Introducing new branches of current routes


18G Hamilton - Union early-morning express

GO is revising the early-morning bus service that it operates before GO train service begins. It’s splitting the current 18B Hamilton - Union early-morning branch into two services Mondays to Saturdays. Buses continue to operate along the 18B branch early Sunday-and-holiday mornings.

Starting Saturday, September 3, a bus operating along the new 18G branch leaves the Hamilton GO Centre at 5:45 a.m. Saturdays. It serves local stops along King Streets East and West in Hamilton, then stops at Aldershot, Burlington and Oakville GO Stations before operating without stopping until the Union Station GO Bus Terminal. The bus arrives in the Oakville GO Station bus terminal at 6:15 a.m. Saturdays, where passengers can connect with a bus operating along the 18H Oakville - Union early-morning branch to travel to Clarkson and Port Credit GO Stations.

By operating express buses between Oakville and Union, and skipping Clarkson and Port Union, GO decreases the travel time for passengers by 20 minutes, with buses arriving in downtown Toronto at 6:35 a.m., instead of 6:55 a.m. Saturdays.

Starting Tuesday, September 6, a bus operating along the new 18G branch leaves the Hamilton GO Centre at 4:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. It serves local stops along King Streets East and West in Hamilton, then stops at Aldershot, Burlington and Oakville GO Stations before operating without stopping until the Union Station GO Bus Terminal. The bus arrives in the Oakville GO Station bus terminal at 5 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, where passengers can connect with a bus operating along the 18H Oakville - Union early-morning branch to travel to Clarkson and Port Credit GO Stations.

By operating express buses between Oakville and Union, and skipping Clarkson and Port Union, GO decreases the travel time for passengers by 20 minutes, with buses arriving in downtown Toronto at 5:20 a.m., instead of 5:40 a.m. Mondays to Fridays.

47G Hamilton - Yorkdale via Hwy 407

Starting Saturday, September 3, GO operates buses along this new branch of the route, linking the Hamilton GO Centre with McMaster University, the Dundas / Highway 407, Bronte Road / Highway 407 and Trafalgar / Highway 407 “Park ‘n’ Ride carpool lots, Square One, Bramalea GO Station, York University and Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal.

This new branch of the route introduces Saturday service between Hamilton and York University and also extends Sunday-and-holiday service along the York University Busway and William R. Allen Road from York University to Yorkdale.

Eastbound buses leave the Hamilton GO Centre at 6:35 a.m. and every until 10:35 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and every hour until 6:30 p.m., 7:35 p.m. and every hour until 9:35 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. They arrive at the Harry W. Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 8:10 a.m. and every hour until 11:10 p.m. They end their trips in the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal at 8:30 a.m. and every hour until 11:30 p.m.

Westbound buses leave Yorkdale at 7:10 a.m. and every hour until 10:10 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. They arrive on York’s Keele Campus at 7:30 a.m. and every hour until 10:30 p.m. They end their trips in the Hamilton GO Centre at 9:05 a.m. and every hour until 12:05 p.m., 1:10 p.m. and every hour until 8:10 p.m., 9:05 a.m. and every hour until 11:05 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and 12:05 a.m. Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays after holiday Mondays.

12B Niagara Falls - Burlington express

Starting Saturday, September 2, GO operates buses along this new express branch of the route Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Westbound buses leave the Niagara Falls VIA Rail Station at 3:30, 5:30, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The pick up passengers on Stanley Avenue north of Highway 420 four minutes later then operate without stopping until the Burlington GO Station. They arrive in Burlington at 4:25, 6:25, 8:25 and 10:25 p.m.

Eastbound buses leave Burlington at 9:53 and 11:53 a.m. and 1:53 and 3:53 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The buses drop off passengers on Stanley Avenue north of Highway 420 at 10:36 a.m. and 12:36, 2:36 and 4:36 p.m. They arrive at the Niagara Falls VIA Rail Station four minutes later at 10:40 a.m. and 12:40, 2:40 and 4:40 p.m.

GO is operating bus along this branch only until Thanksgiving, Monday, October 11 to partially replace weekend train service along the 13 Niagara Falls line.

GO is also operating buses along the new 12D St. Catharines - Burlington express branch and adjusting the schedule of the main route.

18H Oakville - Union early-morning

GO is revising the early-morning bus service that it operates before GO train service begins. It’s splitting the current 18B Hamilton - Union early-morning branch into two services Mondays to Saturdays. Buses continue to operate along the 18B branch early Sunday-and-holiday mornings.

Starting Saturday, September 3, a bus operating along the new 18H branch leaves Oakville GO Station at 6:15 a.m. Saturdays, serves Clarkson and Port Credit GO Stations, then operates without stopping until the Union Station GO Bus Terminal. It arrives in Union at 6:55 a.m. Saturdays. The bus waits at Oakville GO Station for the bus operating along the 18G Hamilton - Union express early-morning route to arrive, so passengers traveling to Clarkson and Port Credit from points west of Oakville can transfer to the 18H bus.

Starting Tuesday, September 6, a bus operating along the new 18H branch leaves Oakville GO Station at 5 a.m. Saturdays, serves Clarkson and Port Credit GO Stations, then operates without stopping until the Union Station GO Bus Terminal. It arrives in Union at 5:40 a.m. Saturdays. The bus waits at Oakville GO Station for the bus operating along the 18G Hamilton - Union express early-morning route to arrive, so passengers traveling to Clarkson and Port Credit from points west of Oakville can transfer to the 18H bus.

12D St. Catharines - Burlington express

Starting Friday, September 9, GO operates a bus along this new express branch of the route Fridays only.

The westbound bus leaves the Fairview Mall Terminal in St. Catharines at 3:10 p.m. Fridays. It operates without stopping until the Burlington GO Station, arriving at 3:45 p.m.

GO is also operating buses along the new 12B Niagara Falls - Burlington express branch and adjusting the schedule of the main route.

88A Trent U - Oshawa express

Starting Sunday, September 4, GO operates buses along this new express branch of the 88 Trent U - Oshawa route.

A northbound bus leaves Oshawa GO Station at 9:18 p.m. Sundays and holidays. The bus operates without stopping until Peter Gzowski College on the Symons campus of Trent University, arriving at 10:38 p.m.

Starting Friday, September 9, southbound buses leave Trent at 2:55 and 5:08 p.m. Fridays. The buses operate without stopping until Oshawa GO Station, arriving at 4 and 6:13 p.m.
