More construction means more detours for TTC buses,
starting September 23

Ongoing construction projects — at the Sony Centre near Front Street East and Scott Street and at Union Station — require the TTC to further detour buses operating along the 72A Pape via Commissioners route, starting Friday, September 23, to make sure drivers can maintain regular service along the route and adhere to schedules.

Work on the project to build a residential condominium tower at Sony Centre blocks part of The Esplanade between Scott and Yonge Streets. The TTC has detoured buses around the Sony Centre project since Saturday, January 30, 2010.

Work on the project to build a second subway platform beneath Union Station blocks part of Bay Street. The TTC has detoured buses around the Union Station project since Thursday, June 2.

72A Pape via Commissioners

Eastbound buses continue to operate along their regular route.

Starting Friday, September 23, westbound buses operate along their regular route to The Esplanade and Church Street, then detour:

northward along Church;
westward along Wellington Streets East and West;
southward along Simcoe Street; and then
eastward along Front Street West to the regular stop just east of Bay Street,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on The Esplanade at Scott Street and
  • on Bay Street south of Wellington Street West.

Instead, buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Wellington Street East at Yonge Street and
  • on Wellington Street West at Bay and York Streets.
