More YRT detours at Markham Stouffville Hospital,
starting September 19



Update — Monday, October 24, 9:37 a.m.: Since a strike prevents YRT from operating service to and from the hospital, the construction project no longer affects service.


Update — September 21, 10:15 p.m.: YRT has revised the detour route for buses operating along the 411 Markham District High School special via Box Grove route.


Markham Stouffville Hospital contractors continue to work on a project to build a new west entrance, roadway and parking lot at the hospital.

Since Tuesday, May 25, 2010, the project has resulted in detours for buses operating along several York Region Transit routes that pass near the hospital or through the hospital grounds or near the hospital.

Starting today, Monday, September 19, the hospital is closing all access to the grounds of the hospital and YRT is further detouring buses operating along the 9 Ninth Line, 18 Bur Oak and 411 Markham District High School special via Box Grove routes.

Construction continues for about three weeks.


18 Bur Oak

For three weeks, starting today, Monday, September 19, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Church Street at Country Glen Road.

Northbound buses don’t enter the hospital grounds, but proceed, instead:

eastward along Church;
southward along Ninth Line;
eastward along Highway 7; and then
northward along Bur Oak Avenue to Church,
resuming their regular route northward along Church.

411 Markham District High School special via Box Grove

For three weeks, starting today, Monday, September 19, buses leaving Markham District High School reverse the regular morning route toward the school. Buses drop off passengers on Church Street at Country Glen Road (beside Markham Stouffville Hospital), then proceed:

eastward along Church;
southward along Bur Oak Avenue;
eastward along Highway 7;
southward along Stoney Stanton Road and Michelina Terrace; and then
westward along Kenilworth Gate to Ninth Line,
resuming their regular route southward along Ninth.

Afternoon buses operate along their regular route.

9 Ninth Line

For three weeks, starting today, Monday, September 19, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Church Street at from Country Glen Road (beside Markham Stouffville Hospital), ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips on Church Street at Country Glen Road, then proceed:

eastward along Church;
southward along Bur Oak Avenue;
westward along Highway 7; and then
northward along Ninth to Church,
resuming their regular route northward along Ninth.
