Part 1 -- Weekend events affect transit services,
October 14, 15, 16



The annual Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon in downtown Toronto and other special events in the Greater Golden Horseshoe affect transit services this weekend.

(In fact, the Waterfront Marathon dominates the entire area south of Queen Street between Victoria Park and Roncesvalles Avenues on Sunday morning and afternoon. Most TTC and GO Transit services are detouring.)

This part of the post describes events that affect transit in Ajax, the Bowmanville area of Clarington, Cambridge, Guelph and Kitchener this weekend.

Part 2 of the post describes events that affect transit in the Lindsay area of Kawartha Lakes, Toronto and Waterloo.

Ajax


Pumpkinville

The Town of Ajax is again hosting its annual family fall festival at Greenwood Conservation Area this Saturday.

This year, Durham Region Transit is operating free shuttle buses along two routes to take you to Greenwood and back again.

Pumpkinville express 1

Buses leave Ajax GO Station every 10 minutes from 10:45 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. Saturday, October 16. They leave Greenwood Conservation Area for Ajax GO Station every 10 minutes from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Pumpkinville express 2

Buses leave the bus drop-off and pick-up area in front of Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School on Harwood Avenue North every 10 minutes from from 10:45 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. Saturday, October 16. They leave Greenwood Conservation Area for Ajax GO Station every 10 minutes from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.


Bowmanville


Apple Festival and Craft Fair

The Region of Durham and the Municipality of Clarington are closing

  • King Street East Bowmanville (Regional Highway 2) between Scugog and Ontario Streets

all day Saturday to accommodate the Historic Downtown Bowmanville Business Improvement Area’s annual fall festival.

GO Transit is detouring buses during the event.

90 Newcastle - Oshawa

From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday October 16, westbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street East and Liberty Street, then detour:

southward along Liberty South;
westward along Baseline Road;
northward along Waverly Road South; and then
east- and northward along Roenigk Drive to King Street West,
resuming their regular route westward along King West.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on King Street East west of Liberty Street North and George Street and at Temperance Street South and
  • on King Street West at Scugog Street North.

Eastbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on King Street West at Scugog Street South and
  • on King Street East east of Temperance and Division Streets south and at Ontario and Liberty Streets South.

Cambridge


Kitchener - Waterloo Oktoberfest

Grand River Transit is providing free service on all routes at certain times and extending the hours of service on one route in Cambridge this weekend. The event also affects transit services in Kitchener and Waterloo.

All buses operating along all routes after 11 p.m. Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 are free of fare.

52 Fairview Park / Ainslie Street

Later buses until about 2 a.m. Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17.

All Guelph Transit routes

You can ride any Guelph Transit bus for free on Friday, October 15 to the Guelph Storm game against the Peterborough Petes at 7:30 p.m. — if you have a valid ticket to the game. You can ride free of fare to and from the Sleeman Centre on Friday evening after 5 p.m. by simply showing the Guelph Transit driver your game ticket.

Kitchener events include: the Kitchener - Waterloo Oktoberfest (October 4 to 17); and the Oktoberfest Willkommen Platz / Welcome Centre (October 16 to 18).

Grand River Transit is providing free service on all routes at certain times and extending the hours of service on many routes this weekend. The event also affects transit services in Cambridge and Waterloo.

Buses operate every 20 minutes from midnight until about 2 a.m. along the main part of the route north of Dixon Street / Montgomery Road Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.

Oktoberfest Car Show

The Region of Waterloo and the City of Kitchener are closing :

King Street East (Regional Road 15) between Queen and Scott Streets

on Saturday morning and afternoon to accommodate the event.

Grand River Transit is detouring buses, while the street is closed.

11 Country Hills

From about 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, inbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street East and Madison Avenue, then detour:

southward along Madison South;
westward along Charles Streets East and West;
southward along Ontario Street South; and then
westward into the Charles Street Terminal,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route.

GRT is operating later buses along the route until 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.

7 Mainline

From about 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, southbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Francis Street, then detour:

southward along Francis South;
eastward along Charles Street West;
southward along Gaukel Street; and then
eastward into the Charles Street Terminal; then continuing
eastward along Charles Streets West and East; and then
northward along Madison Avenue South to King Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along King East.

Northbound buses reverse the detour routing.

GRT is also operating later and more frequent buses along the route until 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.


Oktoberfest Willkommen Platz / Welcome Centre

The Region of Waterloo and the City of Kitchener are closing:

  • Benton Street (Regional Road 6), westbound lanes, between King and Charles Streets East and
  • Frederick Street (Regional Road 6), all lanes, between Duke and King Streets East,

for two weeks to accommodate the Oktoberfest Welcome Centre.

Grand River Transit is detouring buses while the streets are closed.

11 Country Hills

From Tuesday, October 4 until Monday, October 17, inbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street East and Madison Avenue, then detour:

southward along Madison Avenue South; and then
westward along Charles Streets East and West to Benton Avenue,
resuming their regular route westward along Charles East.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route.

GRT is also operating later buses along the route until 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.

8 Fairview via East / Franklin

From Tuesday, October 4 until Monday, October 17, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Frederick Street and Duke Street East, then detour:

westward along Duke East and West;
southward along Francis Streets North and South;
eastward along Charles Street West and East;
southward along Gaukel Street; and then
eastward into the Charles Street Terminal,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses start their trips at the Charles Street Terminal, as usual, then proceed:

northward along Ontario Streets South and North; and then
eastward along Duke Streets West and East to Frederick Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Frederick.

GRT is also operating later buses along the route until 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.

15 Frederick

From Tuesday, October 4 until Monday, October 17, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Frederick Street and Duke Street East, then detour:

westward along Duke East and West;
southward along Francis Streets North and South;
eastward along Charles Street West and East;
southward along Gaukel Street; and then
eastward into the Charles Street Terminal,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses start their trips at the Charles Street Terminal, as usual, then proceed:

northward along Ontario Streets South and North; and then
eastward along Duke Streets West and East to Frederick Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Frederick.

18 Guelph Street

From Tuesday, October 4 until Monday, October 17, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Frederick Street and Duke Street East, then detour:

westward along Duke East and West;

eastward into the Charles Street Terminal,
ending their trips.

23 Idlewood

From Tuesday, October 4 until Monday, October 17, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Frederick Street and Duke Street East, then detour:

westward along Duke East and West;

southward along Gaukel Street; and then
eastward into the Charles Street Terminal,
ending their trips.

Outbound buses start their trips at the Charles Street Terminal, as usual, then proceed:

northward along Ontario Streets South and North; and then
