Guelph Transit delays new bus routes until January 1

As part of the City of Guelph’s Transit Growth Strategy, Guelph Transit planned to start operating buses along new routes, starting Sunday, November 6, but now is delaying that until the new year.

Buses start rolling along the new routes, using new schedules, New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 2, 2012.

A City news release says that GT is postponing its new route network “because of collective bargaining agreement obligations”.

GT originally planned to implement its new routes at the same time as it opened its new transit terminal on Carden Street. All routes in downtown Guelph would have operated through the new terminal. Since the terminal won’t be ready until later next year, downtown GT buses will continue to start and end their trips at St. George’s Square.

When it opens the new Guelph Central Station will host Guelph Transit, GO Transit, Greyhound Canada and Aboutown buses an GO and VIA Rail Canada trains.
