City closes Gardiner, GO buses detour this weekend,
October 22, 23, 24

The City of Toronto is closing

  • the eastbound lanes of the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway between the York, Bay and Yonge Street exit and the Don Valley Parkway and
  • the westbound lanes of the Gardiner between Carlaw and Jameson Avenues

from Saturday, October 22 at 2 a.m. to Monday, October 24 at 5 a.m. for road work.

While the Gardiner is closed, City workers will repair the expressway’s deck. They’ll also:

  • install a long-term lane restriction on the eastbound Gardiner between Lower Jarvis Street and the Don Valley Parkway, to allow worker to replace the light-pole bases;
  • sample core material and inspect the main deck by camera in both directions for to evaluate the deck condition;
  • clean catch basins cleaning to make sure water properly drains off the roadway;
  • maintain closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras; and
  • repair roadway cuts and the RESCU traffic management system detectors.

GO Transit is likely detouring some buses operating to and from the Union Station GO Bus Terminal along Lake Shore Boulevard, instead of the Gardiner. However, buses serve all regular stops.

On other occasions when the City has closed the Gardiner, most buses have operated along Lake Shore Boulevards East and West. However, GO Transit Control monitors road conditions and may direct bus drivers to detour along other streets, depending on traffic flow.
