DRT detours buses during Whitby construction,
starting October 24



Update — Tuesday, December 7, 9:44 a.m.: Construction has ended and buses have resumed regular service.


Update — Monday, November 7, 2:44 p.m.: Construction has resumed and continues until December. DRT detours continue indefinitely, instead of ending Friday, October 28, as DRT originally announced.


The Region of Durham is closing

  • Annes Street South (Regional Road 43) between Dunlop and Burns Streets West

for a project to replace the sanitary sewers.

Work started Tuesday, October 11 and likely continues until early December.

Starting Monday, October 24, work on the project has required the Region to completely close the intersection of Annes Street and Burns Street West.

Durham Region Transit is detouring buses operating along the 301 West Lynde / Otter Creek and 318 Otter Creek / Garden / Whitby Shores routes while the intersection is closed.

Starting Monday, October 24, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Michael Boulevard (east-west branch) and Michael Boulevard (north-south branch), then detour:

northward along Michael;
eastward along Dawson Street;
southward along Annes Street South;
eastward along Harriet Street; and then
southward along Henry Street South to Burns Street West,
resuming their regular routes eastward along Burns West.

Inbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Michael Boulevard at Burns Street West,
  • on Burns Street West east of Michael Boulevard and at Annes and Henry Streets South.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route.

301 West Lynde / Otter Creek

From Monday, October 24, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Michael Boulevard (east-west branch) and Michael Boulevard (north-south branch), then detour:

northward along Michael;
eastward along Dawson Street;
southward along Annes Street South;
eastward along Harriet Street; and then
southward along Henry Street South to Burns Street West,
resuming their regular routes eastward along Burns West.

Inbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Michael Boulevard at Burns Street West,
  • on Burns Street West east of Michael Boulevard and at Annes and Henry Streets South.

Outbound buses reverse the detour routing.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Burns Street West west of Henry Street South, at Annes Street South and west of Annes South.

Inbound buses operate toward Whitby GO Station.

Outbound buses operate away from Whitby GO Station.
