TTC revises routes and services, November 20

We’ve gathered information for this post from three sources: the TTC’s service changes page, its service planning report (.pdf) for the period October 9, 2011 to January 7, 2012 and Steve Munro’s invaluable analysis of these service changes (.pdf).

The TTC is increasing service along several routes, starting next Sunday, November 20. (In light of the ongoing municipal budget crisis, this may be the last time we report more — rather than less — service along TTC routes.)

It’s also restoring some of the service it removed from Kingston Road between Danforth Avenue and Birchmount Road, when it decided to reroute buses to Variety Village, starting Sunday, May 8. The TTC started the service after members of the media supported Variety Village’s campaign for service.

The TTC is changing service along these routes: 12 Kingston Rd; 43 Kennedy; 73 Royal York; 79 Scarlett Rd; 100 Flemingdon Park; 102 Markham Rd; 116 Morningside; 165 Weston Rd North; 501 Queen; 512 St. Clair

Specifically, the TTC is: introducing a new branch of a current route; increasing service along a current route; increasing the frequency of service along a current route; decreasing the frequency of service along a current route; and adjusting the schedule of a current route.

Introducing a new branch of a current route

Starting Sunday, November 20, the TTC restores service along this former branch of the route, operating between Kennedy and Victoria Park Stations along Brimley and Kingston Roads and Victoria Park Avenue, but skipping Danforth Avenue, Variety Village and Birchmount Road.

Westbound buses leave Kennedy Station Saturdays, Sundays and holidays before 10 p.m., then proceed:

eastward along Eglinton Avenue East;
southward along Brimley Road;
westward along Kingston Road;
northward along Bingham Avenue;
eastward through Bingham Loop;
northward along Victoria Park Avenue;
eastward along Denton Avenue; and then
northward into Victoria Park Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses leave Victoria Park Station, then proceed:

southward along Victoria Park Avenue;
eastward along Kingston Road;
northward along Brimley Road;

southward into Kennedy Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Buses drop off and pick up passengers at each unique stop along this branch of the route every 34 minutes before 7 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and every 40 minutes from 7 until 10 p.m.

Along common sections of the route, where buses serving both the 12A and 12B branches operate — on Victoria Park Avenue and Kingston Road west of Birchmount Road and on Brimley Road and Kingston Road east of Danforth Avenue — buses continue to drop off and pick up passengers every 17 minutes before 7 p.m. and every 20 minutes from 7 until 10 p.m.

The first westbound 12B buses leave Kennedy Station at 5:46 a.m. Saturdays and holidays and 8:02 a.m. Sundays. The last westbound 12B buses leave Kennedy at 10:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
