City closes eastbound Gardiner Expressway tonight,
GO buses detour, November 23 / 24



The City of Toronto is closing

  • eastbound lanes of the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway between Jameson and Carlaw Avenues

from 11 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, November 23 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, November 24 so City workers can remove concrete barriers and pour concrete to repair pole bases.

GO Transit is likely detouring some buses operating to and from the Union Station GO Bus Terminal along Lake Shore Boulevard, instead of the Gardiner. However, buses serve all regular stops.


This post describes how GO has detoured buses on other occasions when the City has closed the Gardiner. However, GO Transit Control monitors road conditions and may direct bus drivers to detour along other streets, depending on traffic flow.

65 Barrie bus

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

From 11 p.m. Wednesday, November 23 until 5 a.m. Thursday, November 24, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Lake Shore Boulevard, then detour:

eastward along Lake Shore;
northward along Lower Jarvis Street;
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard; and then
northward along Don Roadway to the Don Valley Parkway,
resuming their regular route northward along the Parkway.

From 11 p.m. Wednesday, November 23 until 5 a.m. Thursday, November 24, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to the Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Boulevard West (at the Humber River), then detour:

eastward along Lake Shore and Harbour Street; and then
northward along Bay Street to the Union Station GO Bus Terminal,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route.

From 11 p.m. Wednesday, November 23 until 5 a.m. Thursday, November 24, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Lake Shore Boulevard, then detour:

eastward along Lake Shore;

The City is closing the westbound lanes of the expressway overnight Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25.
