Santa Claus Parades and other events — some seasonal and some not — affect transit services this weekend.

The events take place in the Aurora, Cannington area of Brock Township, Guelph, Markham, the Port Perry area of Scugog Township, Richmond Hill, St. Catharines, the Streetsville area of Mississauga, Toronto and Uxbridge all affect transit service this weekend.


The events affect these routes:

The Saturday, November 26 events affecting transit are: the Cannington Santa Claus Parade; the Cavalcade of Lights; the Markham Santa Claus Parade; the Main Street Festival of Lights; Santa Under the Stars (Aurora); the Scugog Santa Claus Parade; and the Uxbridge Santa Claus Parade.

The Sunday, November 27 events affecting transit are: the Beaches Santa Claus Parade; the Mississauga Santa Claus Parade; the Richmond Hill Santa Claus Parade; and the St. Catharines Santa Claus Parade.

The Region of York and the Town of Aurora are closing

  • Yonge Street (Regional Road 1) between St. John’s Sideroad and Orchard Heights Boulevard / Batson Drive from 3 until 5 p.m., and between Orchard Heights and Industrial Boulevards from 5 until 8 p.m. on Saturday

to accommodate the parade.

GO Transit is detouring bus service during the event.

65 Barrie bus

From 3 until 8 p.m. Saturday, November 26, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and St. John’s Sideroad, then detour:

eastward along St. John’s;
southward along Industrial Parkway; and then
westward along Wellington Street East to the Aurora GO Station,
turning through the Aurora GO Station bus loop; and then
resuming their regular route eastward along Wellington.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Yonge Street south of Orchard Heights Drive, across from Valhalla Court, south of Aurora Heights Drive and across from Centre Street and
  • on Wellington Street East at Wells Street.

Northbound buses reverse the detour routing.

The Region of Durham and the Township of Brock are closing

  • Cameron Street (Regional Road 12) between Laidlaw and Prince Streets

on Saturday morning to accommodate the annual parade.

81 Port Perry / Whitby

From 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, north- and southbound buses operate along their regular route to Cameron and Albert Streets, then detour:

southward along Albert;
eastward along Munro Street; and then
northward along Queen Street to Cameron,
resuming their regular route westward along Cameron.

You can ride any Guelph Transit bus for free on Friday, November 25 to the Guelph Storm game against the Belleville Bulls at 7:30 p.m. — if you have a valid ticket to the game. You can ride free of fare to and from the Sleeman Centre on Friday evening after 5 p.m. by simply showing the Guelph Transit driver your game ticket.


Markham


Markham Santa Claus Parade

The Region of York and the Town of Markham are closing

  • Bullock Drive between Main Street North Markham and Snider Drive from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.,
  • Highway 7 between Ninth Line and Main Street Markham from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
  • Main Street North Markham (Regional Road 68) between Bur Oak Avenue and Highway 7 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and between Bullock Drive / Parkway Avenue and Highway 7 from 1 until 10 p.m.
  • Parkway Avenue between George and Main Streets from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and
  • 16th Avenue (Regional Road 73) between Fincham and Mingay Avenues from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.,

Saturday morning to accommodate the parade and the Main Street Markham Business Improvement Association’s day-long festival, which follows the parade.

  • Main Street North Markham (Regional Road 68) between Bullock Drive / Parkway Avenue and Highway 7

Saturday afternoon and evening to accommodate the Main Street Markham Business Improvement Association’s day-long festival, which follows the Santa Claus Parade.

From about 4 until 7 p.m. Saturday, November 26, southbound buses from Beaverton operate along their regular route to Reach Street (Regional Road 8) and Old Simcoe Road, then detour:

southward along Old Simcoe to Scugog Street; and then
eastward along Scugog (Highway 7A) to Simcoe Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Scugog.

  • Yonge Street (Regional Road 1) between Elgin Mills Road and 16th Avenue / Carrville Road on Sunday afternoon to accommodate this year’s parade.

York Region Transit is detouring buses during the event.

4 Major Mackenzie

From about 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 27, YRT operates two routes. One bus serves the regular route east of Yonge Street and two buses serve the regular route west of Yonge.

The westbound bus on the eastern route operates along the regular route to a temporary stop on Major Mackenzie Drive East at Church Street, ending its trips.

The eastbound bus on the eastern route starts its trips at Major Mackenzie Drive East and Church Street, then operates along its regular route eastward along Major Mackenzie East.

The eastbound buses on the western route operate along the regular route to a temporary stop on Major Mackenzie Drive West at Atkinson Street, ending their trips.

The westbound buses on the western route start their trips at Major Mackenzie Drive West and Atkinson Street, then operate along their regular route westward along Major Mackenzie.

Buses skip their regular stops on Major Mackenzie Drives East and West at Yonge Street.

The parade in Maple also affects service along this route Sunday, November 27.

589 / 590 Richmond Hill community bus

YRT is cancelling all service along the routes all day Sunday, November 27.

From about 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 27,, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road, then detour:

eastward along Elgin Mills Road East;
southward along Bayview Avenue; and then
eastward along 16th Avenue,
resuming their regular route southward along Yonge.

Buses operate to and from Main Street Station, instead of Bingham Loop, during the parade.

From noon until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, westbound buses start their trips in Main Street Station terminal, then proceed:

southward along University Avenue; and then

  • Brock Streets East and West (Regional Roads 1 and 8 and Regional Highway 47) between Centre and Main Streets

on Saturday morning to accommodate the annual parade.

From about 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, Uxbridge-bound buses operate along their regular route to Toronto Street South and Elgin Park Drive, then detour:

eastward along Elgin Park;

ending their trips.
