YRT workers picket southwest division operations centre,
and YRT terminals, delaying bus services today, December 2

Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU)’s Local 1587 and Local 113 have set up picket lines at York Region Transit’s Southwest Division Operations Centre and some YRT terminals today, Friday, December 2, delaying YRT buses operating along the few routes that still offer service to passengers.

The strikers are also delaying buses entering and leaving the Newmarket and Finch GO Bus Terminals. GO Transit buses are stopping to drop off and pick up passengers on Eagle Street West, instead of inside the Newmarket terminal.

The employees have been on strike against three private companies that supply transit services to much of York Region — First Canada, Miller Transport and York BRT Servicessince Monday, October 24. The employees of a fourth private company that supplies YRT service are not on strike, which is why some YRT buses continue to operate.
