Free parking, reduced fare, shuttle service
may help attract Kitchener passengers to GO trains

The Kitchener Post reports that Grand River Transit and the Region of Waterloo are encouraging more passengers in Kitchener and area to travel by GO train.

The first GO Transit train arrives in Kitchener next Monday, December 19 and the Region is letting GO riders park at sites near the future transit hub at King and Victoria Streets. Parking will be free until the last train leaves Kitchener each morning at 7:10 a.m., when the fee jumps to $2 an hour to a daily total of $12. The Region’s making 123 parking spots available immediately, with as many as 139 more available in 2012.

To help local transit passengers connect with the trains, GRT is operating a shuttle bus service from the Charles Street Terminal to the Kitchener GO Station on Victoria Street North. And, GO passengers can board GRT buses for just 50 cents after they show the driver their GO fare. GO is subsidizing the remaining $1.45 of the GRT fare.

GO trains to Toronto leave Kitchener at 5:52 and 7:10 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. Return trains leave Union Station at 4:45 and 5:45 p.m.

GRT and the Region have not yet officially posted information on their websites about these incentives to lure more passengers into riding the trains.
