You'll pay more for GTA Weekly Pass, starting December 29

If you regularly commute by two or more local transit systems in the Greater Toronto Area, you probably know all about the GTA Weekly Pass. However, you may not know that the price is going up from $52 to $54, starting New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, 2012.

The Toronto Transit Commission approved increasing TTC fares and the cost of the GTA Pass during its Wednesday, December 14 meeting.

Drivers and fare collectors on all TTC, Brampton Transit, MiWay and York Region Transit vehicles — including all services for passengers with disabilities — accept the pass as valid fare. If you have GTA Weekly Pass, you won’t have to pay extra when you cross municipal boundaries during any trips by transit.

The weekly pass is valid from 12:01 a.m. Mondays, until morning service starts the next Monday. Vendors sell the GTA Weekly, starting Thursdays the week before the pass is valid, until Tuesdays of the week for which you’ll use the pass. That means you’ll start paying more for the pass, Thursday, December 29, but you won’t be able to use the first pass with the new price until Monday, January 2, 2012.
