HSR revises services, March 25

The Hamilton Street Railway is increasing the frequency of service along a major east-west route serving the lower city, and two routes serving the central Mountain area, when it next revises its services, starting Sunday, March 25.

It’s also changing the service hours for a summer-only, seasonal weekend route, so that buses operate along the route seven days a week throughout the year.

The HSR is revising service along these routes: 1 King, 5E Delaware - Greenhill, 21 Upper Kenilworth, 33 Sanatorium, 51 University, 52 Dundas, 55 Stoney Creek Central, 56 Centennial, 56 Confederation Park, 58 Stoney Creek local.

Specifically it’s: introducing a new route; canceling a seasonal route; increasing service along current routes, increasing the frequency of service along current routes; and adjusting the schedules of current routes.

Introducing a new route

56 Centennial

Starting Sunday, March 25, the HSR operates buses along this new route, connecting Eastgate Square with the new Walmart store on Centennial Parkway North, just south of the Queen Elizabeth Way and Van Wagner’s Beach. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays in June and seven days a week in July and August, the buses also enter Confederation Park.

The buses will also serve the future Confederation GO Station, when GO Transit extends train service to the Niagara Region.

Buses operating along the new route replace the seasonal service along the former 56 Confederation Park route. Buses operate along the new route seven days a week all year round.

Northbound buses start their trips in Lakeland Loop, then proceed:

eastward along Van Wagner’s Beach Road,
southward along Centennial Parkway North;
east-, north-, west-, south- and westward along the internal ring road to the Confederation Plaza, stopping at the bus bay on the east side of the road beside Walmart;
southward along Centennial North;
westward along Queenston Road; and then
northward into the Eastgate Terminal,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses leave Lakeland Loop at 10:22 a.m., then operate every 45 minutes until 5:52 p.m. seven days a week.

Southbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at stops

  • in Lakeland Loop,
  • on Van Wagner’s Beach Road across from Lakeland Community Centre, Hutch’s, Baranga’s Club and #680 Van Wagner’s Beachd,
  • in the Confederation Plaza beside Walmart,
  • on Centennial Parkway North south of Goderich Road, at Arrowsmith Road, Barton Street East, Eastgate Court and Delawana Drive and
  • in Eastgate Terminal.

Northbound buses start their trips in the Eastgate Terminal, then proceed:

eastward along Queenston Road;
northward along Centennial Parkway North;
east-, north-, west-, south- and westward along the internal ring road to the Confederation Plaza, stopping at the bus bay on the east side of the road beside Walmart;
northward along Centennial North; and then
westward along Van Wagner’s Beach Road to Lakeland Loop,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses leave Eastgate Terminal at 10 a.m., then every 45 minutes until 5:30 p.m. seven days a week.

Northbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at stops

  • in Eastgate Terminal,
  • on Centennial Parkway North north of Queenston Road, at Delawana and Violet Drives, Barton Street East and across from Arrowsmith and Goderich Roads,
  • in the Confederation Plaza beside Walmart,
  • on Van Wagner’s Beach Road beside #680 Van Wagner’s Beach, Adventure Village, Baranga’s Club, Hutch’s and Lakeland Community Centre and
  • in Lakeland Loop.

The HSR allows a “walking transfer” at Lakeland Loop for passengers connecting with buses operating along the 11 Parkdale route at Van Wagner’s Beach Road and Beach Boulevard.

Starting Saturday, June 2, when Wild Waterworks opens for the season, the buses will enter Confederation Park from the driveway on Van Wagner’s Beach Road, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The trip to Wild Waterworks adds four minutes to the schedule, so that buses arrive at Lakeland Loop four minutes later than the schedule. They’ll also leave four minutes earlier than the current schedule so that buses continue to arrive serve Eastgate Terminal at the same time throughout the year.

The buses will enter Confederation Park seven days a week in July and August and early September until Labour Day, Monday, September 3.
